Does anyone know of a product / home remedy that I could spray on stuff to keep the cats AWAY from it and not scratch it? My cats are freaks... they have a scratching post and all kinds of crazy stuff but they still insist upon ripping apart my couch.

Does anyone know of a product / home remedy that I could spray on stuff to keep the cats AWAY from it and not scratch it? My cats are freaks... they have a scratching post and all kinds of crazy stuff but they still insist upon ripping apart my couch.

I have tried different products without too much effect. I have one cat that still insists on trying to use the furniture as a scratching post. (The other 4 actually do use the scratching posts) What I have ended up doing is getting plastic film from a fabric store, cutting it to pieces to fit the furniture (a sofa and a loveseat) that the cat likes to claw and using quilting pins to pin it in place. I then put scratching posts or cardboard scratching pads at the four corners where he likes to go so he has an immediate alternative. He still tries every now and again but is stymied by the plastic. This works better than the "Sticky Paws' product as well as looking better .

You might need to get a really tall scratching post if your cats are tall like this one is. I think it is because the sofa is the right height for him to stretch out fully that he likes to use it. Our other two big cats don't mind stretching out horizontally on the scratch pads or else use the cat tree that has sisal around its upright posts.

They messed up the arms of the couch so bad that I had to buy slipcovers. The slipcovers are really nice and I've been throwing blankets over them at night and during the day I just watch them and shoot them with the water gun if they try to start clawing at them. It's getting pretty tiring though.

I'm going to try buying a bigger scratching post maybe that will help

Prince doesn't use his hanging scratching post. He prefers my husband's yoga mat. We keep the yoga mat on the floor inside the bedroom.

Fiona is cute. My husband is planning to fly his other Siamese cat named Pri from Houston. He left her there two years ago when he began working here in CA.
