I know that we're rapidly shifting into hiring mode. Looking at the career mobility site on the intranet was quite sad for the last couple of years. Now, every time I look, there are more positions opening up. Running the same query, I had less than 10 search results in December. That figure is now exceeding 50 - just a few short months later. There's positive development going on in the private sector - I am quite encouraged.

Well, if we're going to talk anecdotes, then yeah I know what you mean. IT hiring in the NYC area has been robust for most of 2009 and still is. People are getting laid off, and finding comparable (sometimes better) work. The only notable difference between the labor market today and the labor market the last time I made a move (late 07) is that today hiring in suburban jersey is just about dead. The Route 287 corridor, my preferred location, still shows no signs of life. Today, the hiring is all in Manhattan and the part of Jersey across Manhattan. Wall Street is driving all the growth right now. They've emerged from this mess more pivotal to the health of this region than ever before.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

Which explains why I see all the positive signs. When Wall Street is doing well, I am doing well.

I almost had an orgasm when I checked my 401k yesterday.

And here I finally went directional back in February with a bet on SH (Proshares Short S&P500 ETF). I figured after the runup last year there simply HAD to be a pullback this year. I'm getting clobbered. It's a modest position, the rest is still hiding out in CDs and money markets (ha!).

I have more than I'd like to admit in money markets too... gotta fix that!

I have 40% invested in global corporations and developing markets. Those are kicking butts and taking names. The 60% invested domestically is growing moss, which is better than rolling downhill, like they were last year.
