Hi Everyone..

I've completed DS-2001 & DS-230 Part 1 on the Instruction Package (Packet-3) I guess and ready to sent in to Consulate.

I wanted to prepared and get a head start on the Appointment Package (Packet-4) for my fiance. Need Help Here :( . Should I start it now for her and sent her the copies, or have her do it later?

Packet 4 required:

DS-156 (EVAF DS-156 ONLINE)

DS-156K ---> Done

DS-230 ---> Done (same as packet 3)

Can you guys help me w/ the DS-156?

Do you recommend I prepare for her and sign section 40? and blank for section 1-5 ?

Thank you so much

Hey Tommy,

Hang on for some feedback on this from some others. The only thing I see that would be an area of concern is that in packet 4 it specifically states that:

"The applicant must personally complete section 38 on the computer"

Not sure what others have done. In our case, Doan completed the form while we chatted on the computer. We discussed each step as she went but she completed everything herself.

Thanks Bernie,

Step 38 is just bunch of checkbox for general questions about criminal activites, ie (have you been charge, arrested or convicted? etc.. In all case, all answer is "NO"

i'm not worried about the time limits.. i can probably get it all done in 5 minutes.. it's just the 2D barcode... don't know if it's any different from where you're complete/printing.

but any insight can be shed from the subject will deeply be appreciated..

Thanks,

When the DS-156 is completed and printed, the bar code contains the information that you entered into the form. (at least that is my understanding).

Does not matter where you print it, but anything that is not completed at the time of printing would not be included in the bar coded info so you'd want to complete sections 1-5 also.

Does that make sense?

You can fill out this form completely if you have all her info before hand and give it to your fiance for signature.

Just put your info on Item 39-40 as you the one who's preparing it.

When you are done, make sure you go over it with her so she also knows what you fill out in this form (or any other forms) ie. who will pay for the trip, work, study in US..etc...

Good luck...

Thanks Ronnie & Bernie.

Section 1-5 is about passport. (1. passport#, 2.place of issuance, 3. issuance country, 4. issuance date, 5. expire date)

I don't think she has passport(ho chieu) or (not sure if this is the same"cmnd - chung minh nhan dan")... so blank for all these field?

thanks

She must have a passport to come to the US... if she does not have it.. she needs to get it now...

I filled out the forms and then had a friend take them to her to finish...

There are many examples on here of the other stuff that she will need to have for the interview... go through that list that is on the consulate website as well as on pkt 4 .. one item at a time and be sure it is present and correct... start preparing now as some of the stuff can take some time to get...

The CMND is the Vietnamese ID card, which is not a passport.

She doesn't get the visa without a passport. Leaving that section blank will get the forms kicked back and delay your process.

It's better now that you take the time to make sure that you and your fiancee are prepared for what is to come.
