Gumby eats chips for breakfast and dinner. Im going to try and avoid them. Instead, Im going to eat more Sweet tarts. It's my new addiction these days.

Chips for breakfast & dinner? What's the matter, he doesn't like real food? My kids would LOVE to eat chips for breakfast and dinner, but Luis on the other hand - nope. He needs a full meal. For a Gumby, he sure eats a lot. Sandwiches are a 'snack' even when I make hoagies on Italian bread  This morning when he got home from work he ate a whole plate of rice with vegetables and 2 pieces of chicken. He took steaks out of the freezer and says he's BBQing them for dinner, and just asked me to make potato salad. I got lucky today.

However, give him and the kids a bag of crunchy cheez doodles and consider them GONE. The only proof you will have that he ate them is his orange fingertips.

With your kids around I would actually recommend a big dog! Small dogs tend to be nasty around kids. I would go for working dog, preferably sheep herding dog, their task is to protect the herd, in your case the kids. Old English Sheep Dog for example, perfect Nanny dogs! They barely shed, are gentle despite their size and if you want to avoid the brushing thing everyday you can have them trimmed and they still look cute. I'd have one in a heartbeat, but unfortunately it's the wrong climate here :crying:

I LOVE big dogs. My friend had a golden retriever when I was growing up and you could just curl up with him (his name was Charlie) and fall asleep. He was such a big mush. Old English sheep dogs are adorable! I've always wanted a datschund though. Are they aggressive with little kids? I had a bunch of dreams that I had one and that I named him Frank (short for frankfurter)

Oh well, maybe I'll get the big dog for them and the little munchkin for me :)

As a rule of thumb, always read as much info on the breed you are looking to adopt, do your research and make inquiries. Never buy a dog from of a newspaper ad, pet shop or backyard breeder. Your vet should have a list of reputable breeders and rescues. There is always your local shelter, too.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Dachshounds (in German: Dackel) tend to bark a lot! They think they have to make up for their size with voice. Since they are mainly used for hunting, they need a strong, firm hand, otherwise they'll become a diva. With the kids you rather want a breed that's uncomplicated, naturally kid-friendly, protective and healthy all-in-all. Goldies eat everything under the sun and I've met many owners who had expensive vet bills because of that.

Most of the time it's better to go to your local shelter and look for a puppy there, mixes tend to be healthier and easier to handle. Most breeds have their typical issues. And stay away from breeds in fashion right now, most of them are inbred, have health issues and the breeders don't care about a healthy line, they just want the money.

Both of the kitty cats were rescued, and every dog we've had in my family since I was a kid were rescued dogs.

Gumby likes to eat chip sandwiches. Get a piece of pita bread, put some chips, cream cheese, tomato and green pepper/hot pepper slices, wrap it up nicely and put in microwave for a couple of seconds and eat.

Thanks for the advice Nagi & Chrito :)

I like making sandwiches and putting those little potato sticks on it :) My son Joseph likes sandwiches with Doritos on them

I totally agree. I'm a cat fancier myself but I have enough friends who have had dogs to know that pure breeds have all manner of health problems and golden retrievers do indeed eat everything. I knew someone who had a Dachshound and it was a real handful.

Your extremely helpful post deserves a reward, so here it is.

I've never adopted, long story but the Toronto Humane Society was the problem. Their rules are crazy but there's a big criminal investigation about animal cruelty and what not. I never go looking for cats, HE sends them to me. :innocent:

BTW, Sus, here's some music to help wile away the time while Luis toils on the BBQ.:luv:

Everytime I ask them to pose for a group potrait, one of them gives me the finger. I'll have to see if I have a nice pic of The Beast or one of The Texicans. In the meantime, one of my Frangis bloomed for the first time.   I only wish Mom was around to see it. :crying: :crying: :crying:
