My lawyer said that as long as you don't stay away more than 6 months you won't have any problems. He said you could stay away longer and up to a year but then they had the right to treat you as an alien and not a LPR when you enter again. I asked if it was okay to just come back here for "vacation" a week or two every 5-6 months and he said that was enough. Also, if you want to apply for citizenship you will have to have lived in the US permanent for 1.5 years right before you apply.

MP- The officer was really relaxed about it. He said he "recommends" getting a re-entry permit for trips of a few months, although the law is up to a year is okay. I wonder if he is a "play-it-safe" guy, or if he just wants us to give the gov. more money! He wasn't sure how long the reentry permit was good for (2 years) and he said all they want to see is continual presence. I also wonder how many reentry permits one can apply for. I would imagine if you apply every two years and come every two years that won't work. He said every visit to the US starts the clock over again. (of course, almost nothing can keep me from being paranoid ) As a green card holder however, I beleive that everyone has a right to an appeal at the POE if they get denied. Don't ever sign a paper that gives up your right to a green card at the POE! (I have heard of border patrol officers asking people to do this, but it was probably on a lawyer site trying to milk people for money )

My lawyer said the same thing about the clock starting over and you have to think about that when/if you want to apply for citizenship.

Yes they are!!! I called a few weeks ago (after I was interviewed) asking about the status of my i-485 cause the status online hadn't changed. I went as far as telling the young lady on the phone I gotten a stamp in my passport and she was trying to tell me that the stamp was a confirmation that I dropped off my application. I got so frustraated I just said forget it and thanked her for her time .

Not me. Still looking. I don't wanna go back and do some minimum wage job since I now have a degree, but there does not seem to be anything else out there. I'm trying to get into my wife's company. Applied for 2 jobs, should get at least 1 interview.
