I got this right away without asking. It's not a temporary social, it's like a receipt.

Have you looked at the document before saying that? I also got a receipt on the day I applied, but their was no SSN on it, just stating that on the 6/21 i applied for a SSN.

The document I joint , is the one I got 2 days after, as I was directed to, with the actual Number on it (which i blackened for obvious reasons). I now join a scan of the receipt I got on the day I applied, then you'll see it's different.

Again Alla, if you quote me just to prove me wrong without even checking if I'm wrong, then you are the more childish...

And yes, here I am pretty pissed off at you right now because all you did, and still do, If you don't like me, don't bother anwsring to my posts. It looks to me like you're just jalous that I 've been more fortunate in life.

Also I remember now what offended you so much: You said that it was not safe to travel to Hawaii, like it is not USA, and I just corrected you. Yes i get all pationate about the stuff that I know it's true.... but if I you have issues admitting your wrong, then a shrink could maybe help you with that. I am not here to support your mistakes.

And for the attitude, I'm French, I have a reputation to stick to...

I'm still waiting for my SSN' date=' called them again today and they said it may take 6-8 weeks. So Noth, I'd love to know how you got yours in 2 days??[/quote']

I think you should go to your SSA and ask for the print out, I 'm posting the receip I got on the day I applied (check the previous page to see what the print out looks like) so you can SEE that it's two different documents. But you'll have to go to ssa, and explain you need your social right away 'cause you found a job (for ex.)

Sensii so sorry for your bad road trip!

@all congrats on the moving forward in your cases.

It is not a temporary social, it's conditional. And it will state the same number all your life. I had "DHS authorization" and other stuff written on it but it's normal social.

I got this right away without asking. It's not a temporary social, it's like a receipt.

Hello I was reading this post regarding the Social Security Card. My SS card have this restriction "Valid for Work Only with DHS Authorization. I first applied for SS number after 2 weeks from the day I arrived in k1 visa. When I get my first card on my maiden name, it already state that restriction. After I got married and my i-94 is still valid for a month, I changed my Social Security card so I could have my married name on it. After 2 weeks, I received my Card in my married name, still with the same number and with the same restriction, (this is all prior to my AOS application)

I checked Noth's file the scan papers from SS office. I have both of them too. Receipt letter without the SS number on it is issued to me the first time I did apply for my SS number after I arrived.

Then the second one with the SS number is given to me when I asked for a copy of my ss number as my personal record. This is after I request for the amendment of card to my married name.

So besa, if i understand you correctly. After getting your GC, you have to go back to SSC to get a unrestricted SSN?

Is there an expiration with the SSN they will give you using just your EAD?

Yup... And I think thats where Alla & others vary; She calls it conditional but really SSA calls it RESTRICTED... Its not conditional nor temporary folks. It is the same number you'll get and use for the rest of your life but notice I said they'd issue u a TEMPORARY CARD not a temporary number because ya have to update the card once you get the GC which is why its called "restricted" cuz if you kept the one they'd give u right after the EAD but before the GC (restricted one with "work only") on it, it'd be useless in filing taxes etc.

So yes coco, ya have to go back to the SSA after ya get the GC. Unless ya just wait for the GC to apply for a SSN then you're good.

Congrats kerrin :D

You're making a point here. I'm sorry that I've lost my temper. I just felt attacked and I tried defend my self. I shouldn't have done that, and I hope you all will accept my apologies.

But geee! I was just trying to make my point about how to get your SSN number before receiving the card in the mail. That's all!

I'm sorry I didn't express myself well enough so you all could get it first time. I'm probably more frustrated by not being able to be understood than anything else. Sorry again.

But I uploaded the documents i have, and explained myself in numerous posts, and I still have the feeling that you guys don't believe me. I'm so glad paulhmerrie came and confirm that the 2 documents exists and are different. After you apply for SSN you can go back there and ask for a printout of your SSN, you just have to wait until you are in the system (for me was 2 days) and take withh you the receipt they give the day yoou apply.

Please understand that I just wanted to help people in this thread getting their SSN by charing my experience, that is all. I'm not a warrior person at all, just that if i feel attack, then i have to defend myself.

Again sorry.

And congratulations @all of you that got approved at their interview!

good night
