I didn't managed anything, when i applied on 06/21, the lady told me that it would take a day to get me in the system but that i could come after that to get a temp number. That is what i did on 06/23. They printed out a temp card. I received the real card within a week.

I live in Orange County California.

Ohh but the number was the same right? So u could already wrk wit the temp one?

Wow 1 week is fast!!! I heard NYC takes 2-3 weeks! Well great u could do that., good 2 know about that, I will ask about that option when I go 2 the ss card

exactly, the paper they give you olds Your unique SSN, so you can start working right-away! ( or apply for DL in my case) because you only have one nuber!

If you explain that you really need to work , than they would probably give you ur number (but you'll have to come back 2days after)

Hope it helps!

RIGHT! God Forgive me but my town would clear out... all those women 20 and under with 6 kids living off the system, trading food stamps to buy drugs, while I drag my butt to work everyday (so they can LIVE off the system) and fight to teach my kids to have morals and values.... Not to mention.. I had to take a Drug test to work.. now if they are collecting governmental funds.. make them pee in a cup!

OH NO.. PREGO is on a rant...lol

back to topic.. anyone get letters :hehe:

I totally agree!!! Ppl should def take drug tests in order 2 get welfare foodstamps etc etc.. Cuz chances are u need them cuz u don't work cuz u r on drugs..don't have money for food but have money 4 drugs interesting... I agree and u have 2 wrk hard 2 raise ur kids right give them a lot of patience and time so they don't go on a bad road which unforutantly starts even younger and younger for some children :( :(

Sorry, Gabiandvi, I win oldest. Think Madonna and Guy Ritchie. (I being the USC and my hubby the UKC) :D

Green card arrived in mail yesterday! WAY COOL! So nice to breathe a sigh of relief and now we are looking at flights to England so he can visit family! Prices are nuts btw!!!!!

Sounds like you have me beat! But not by much.

Congrats on the GC. Sounds like we can be expecting ours any minute now!

And what's up with the prices? My friend from Canada is coming next week and a couple of weeks ago on fly.com I saw a flight for $400. This week it's $700 and that's what she's paying. I used to fly to China for not much more than that!

Noth, you are lucky. Are you overstayed?

As I know this number you can get only if your employer will request for you or give you specific forms to fill out. And also you need to have legal status on that moment.

No I'm not overstayed, and of course I could'nt do anything before i got my EA card in the mail. You can apply for an SSN as soon as you get your EACard (the logic here is if you're authorized to work, then you need a ssn, right!?) where i was lucky apparently is that at my SSA they were ok to give me my number on a temp card 2 days after i applied.

I don't understand your comment since I've been telling my story over and over on this same thread....headbonk.gif

sorry off topic:

Where you are wrong is that the "help" we are talking about is not for that type of person. In Europe you receive help when you WORK full time but don't make enough money to raise your kids. It's not for ppl that never worked and make babies like they are living in the 15th century.

As you said these ppl already get help! (while the drug test could be a great solution, i agree)

Again, I was not talking about the very poor, or the very rich, but about the middle class that makes this country rich but have no benefit in exchange (no maternity leave, no social protection in case of an accident, no free quality school for their kids, no paid vacation time.... and the list can be longer)

Any time someone comes up with that type of example, but they don't get that this is not the public for the social help they spot in Europe. Again, the ppl that is spoted is those that have a Job, full time, and are struggling to make food in their kids plate or to pay the bills.

Ones you get that, then you have no real excuse to say no to that.

back to topic.

Sweden sounds great!!! How come u ever left? Lol

Yea I had relatives which went 2 wrk to sweden, the netherlands etc etc and they said good things. That they treat ppl equally and give equal money for the job. And since its from a country who are also in the european union u can legally wkr there.

Yea the usa is supposed 2 be this huge advamced nation but look how it treats its ppl? Cuz they say this is the land of the free, the land od possibilities so basically eaither u had insurance cuz ur really poor and u have the state medicaid or ur rich anf have money but the hard wrking ppl in the middle class barely tie up loose ends and u don't have money for isurance which is expensive. Or if someone gets really sick like cancer insurance companies have like a million dollar limit which is ok if u never have a serious disease but can end fasy if u have smthing serious. So half way u can end up witout insurance... Well now they finally changed that but ppl are resistant 2 change like u said because of fear and propaganda, cuz insurance companies make millions on ppl!!!

Lol and we get soo stressed bout gettin greencards cuz we wannna be here... Lol

Well hopefully this will change now that everyone will have 2 have insurance maybe it won't be so expensive.

Well, I didn't intend to stay here when I was done with school, and then I met my husband...and ooh, the things we do for love :) We'll see what happens in the future, there are good and bad things in every country but they are definitely more family-oriented (or people-oriented) in Europe.

2 weeks after I applied for my SSN and still haven't got it. Apparently they have to electronically verify my EAD with DHS.

Did anyone receive a letter telling you that they have to verify your documents? Maybe it's local to Buffalo. God knows, but it's p!ssing me off!
