Most of the fear based posts about brown shirts and tea partiers are from you and people like you. I correctly predicted days before that the militia fearmongering would take place. I don't work for the Dept. of Justice but it was obvious it was coming as retrend from the 1990s and the need to the Obama Administration to create a narrative compelling enough to offset any of the growing criticism by dismissing all the opposition crazy or linked to crazies.

It's definitely working as you've swallowed the whole thing without question. If not, can you name names of those clever politicians calling for violent acts? Climate of fear? Who's afraid to speak up? As pure BS as the "chill wind blowing" line that actor, Tim Robbins, came up with a few years back.

I'm not afraid of the tea partiers, Dave.

What I was getting at is that the tea party movement is one which does not have much of a sense of political direction - that it is broadly anti-government and appears to be driven more by anger than by a coherent political strategy. While the US thankfully does not have the same political climate as 1930's Germany, political movements such as this can (and have been) hijacked by cynical politicians trying to force their own agenda.

You don't even need to go back to Germany either for the precedent, Joe McCarthy is still (just) within living memory.

"We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we've set. We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded."

This story is so old, so over blown, one wonders why you bothered to dig it up well over a year after it was tried, and failed to stop the Obama campaign? Here is a newsflash for you:

The election is over, and Obama won. McCain and Palin lost. Better luck next time ########!

What makes you think I supported McCain, or who I voted for? Obvious elitist attitude is obvious. All your prejudices are only clarified the ASSumptions you made...In error I might add. There is not a black and white, either...or, world out there. Ever heard of "buyers remorse"? Sheesh! What are they teaching shave tails these days?

The tea party isn't that coherent or directed but it is rooted in the general idea that government is big and rapidly getting bigger without an economy able to provide more revenue without running a higher deficit or increasing taxes. The incoherent and angry group of folks backed a vague platfrom from a largely unknown and unproven candidate, Barack Obama.

As far McCarthy goes, what he did wouldn't be memorable except he went after far leftwing types in media and arts who could push back when his fishing expedition got tiresome. Very little effect on the bulk of Americans' daily lives.

If you watched the movie Good Night and Good Luck, you'll note the snorefest ignores what was happening in the world at the time and movie had little context.

There were Communists openly serving in the White House. I have a hard time appreciating the selective memory of the new left at times.

Nothing was said on my part over who you did or did not support. Your posts give one an idea, but only an idea, since I don't recall ever reading one in which you said one way or the other. However, this story from your OP came out during the election campaign over a year ago. No it is not scary, yes it is old.

It's not entirely a matter of selective memory. For some on the left, communism is not seen as a big threat, if it is seen in negative terms at all.

The video is being brought up in the context of a section in the healthcare bill relating to the creation of a ready reserve force, to respond in the case of medical, or "other", unspecified emergency.

(Constitutionally, the only authority the President has over the medical profession, are those officers serving in the military, of which the Ready Reserve is a component. Some on the left, in response, have stated that this is what the legislation is referring to. If so, some doctors are going to be in for a shock, when they are recalled to active duty, to serve at the whim of the President.)

I understand the "general idea", but without an organized platform it essentially amounts to a bunch of angry mob of people shaking their fists at the sky.

Your uncle may not be given to overreaction or hyperbole, but clearly you are.
Excuse me, please? How well do you know me?
And no, survivors don't have a "radar about these things".
Please justify your comment.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Justify what? That holocaust survivors have a "radar" about totalitarianism?

Don't be bloody silly.

And I don't need to "know" you to read hyperbole and overreaction in your post.

How many have you talked with about it? That would be the simplest way to justify your sweeping dismissal.
And I don't need to "know" you to read hyperbole and overreaction in your post.
It would have helped to know me before jumping to a conclusion. It also would have helped to read the message to yourself as if it were being spoken in a calm, rational tone, and maybe you would have perceived it differently.

I don't need to talk to anyone to know that what you wrote is ridiculous. But by all means, please lets have a big display of ego on your part defending it.

It would have helped to know me before jumping to a conclusion. It also would have helped to read the message to yourself as if it were being spoken in a calm, rational tone, and maybe you would have perceived it differently.

I didn't jump to a conclusion - your statement was not ambiguous, nor does it does it support multiple interpretations.

I don't need to "know" you to comment on what you wrote. Don't be silly.
