Hey,

We were just looking up the prices of plane tickets and found that I could possibly have a stopover in vancouver before my final destination in Seattle. Would it be an issue if my Fiancee drove up to vancouver to pick me up and bring me back across the boarder using my K1 rather than have to wait for the next flight?

Cheers

Entry in to the United States through Canada has been a hot topic lately.

Believe it or not, and you should call the airlines and ICE, your POE into the United states is Vancouver. All US bound planes from Canada must have the passengers clear immigration and customs in the Canadian city of your departure.

This means your K-1 Visa will be taken in Vancouver and you will be processed in Vancouver if you have a ticket continuing on to a US city such as Seattle. Your luggage will be checked all the way through to Seattle.

If you end in Vancouver and do not fly on to Seattle, you will not go through US immigration only Canadian immigration. They do not care about your K-1 Visa.

Your port of Entry where your K-1 will be taken and processed will be at the border crossing from Canada to the USA as you would expect.

I know for a fact all Canadian flights land at Domestic terminals at San Francisco International airport. This is because the passengers clear immigration and customs before boarding the US bound flight.

Good luck

Shouldn't be - however, you will be arriving in Canada and going through customs and immigration and they will probably question just what you are up to. Basically you will be a person arriving in Canada with a one way ticket.

Now that can probably be overcome by presenting your U.S. visa (although they may not know what that is, be prepared to explain) and your fiance should also be available if you need to back up your story by proving he is there waiting for you.

Not sure how long your layover is supposed to be, but worse case scenario they make you take the flight to Seattle :)

Have a good trip!

You cannot book a ticket to Seattle through Vancouver and just plan on getting off at Vancouver. Your baggage if any will be checked through to Seattle. You will cause a scare if you get off of the plane in Vancouver leaving baggage in the Cargo hold or transferred to another plane's cargo hold. I am not going to explain in detail due to the monitoring of internet postings but you cannot do as suggested above.

Your ticket, city of disembarkation and luggage must all match.

Good luck.

I remember when I was looking for a one way flight home from the UK, it would have worked out way cheaper had I purchased a rt originating from FL to the UK, and what I wanted to do was to just use the return part of the ticket. They told me that it all had to be used, or else the return portion of the flight would be canceled. Not sure if that's true for connecting flights, but I'd check into it anyway.

Have a blast in Seattle! I just got back in January, was awesome and had loads of fun!

I've skipped connections in the past when my layover was longer than the drive home. I once had a 5-6 hour layover in Chicago after arriving from Tokyo. I ended up renting a car and drove the 2 hours home. I can't remember if I picked up my luggage and brought it with me or sent it on through and picked up at the destination airport, which wasn't a problem since it's practically in my backyard. Either way, I don't recall having a problem. I've done this other times on domestic flights with no problems at all.

Your situation may be different.
