Canadian Male - US Female - Want to marry soon!

As others have posted, we chose to get married in the US where we knew we could get our marriage certificate quickly. We married in North Carolina, took the marriage license directly to the county office and had two notarized copies in a matter of minutes. As Pauley posted I understand the wait in Ontario can be months!

When I crossed into the US heading to NC all I said was that I was travelling there for vacation which was true; we just happened to get married during that week :) I had every intention of returning to Canada; I had a job to return to and my children were with me.

I did not discover VJ unitl a few months after submitting my I-130 applicaton otherwise I might have been more nervous crossing the border.

Ignorance is bliss. :innocent:

Wow, so true!! When I went to see Tim before, and always said "boyfriend" I was never questioned about if we were planning marriage, and they never wanted to see proof of ties,( good thing, I never had anything with me)..but after starting K-1, ( and found VJ about a month or so after we sent it in) wow...I was so worried about crossing!! LOL so silly, considering Canadian/American crossing isn't that hard to do usually.

SC is quick marriage license too. :)

Best wishes for whatever journey you travel on. Hope you keep us updated.

When I went to see Tim before, and always said "boyfriend" I was never questioned about if we were planning marriage

Yvonne typically hid her engagement ring in her purse when she crossed, and just said she was seeing her boyfriend, rather than fiancé, just in case. To avoid any hassle (and since I could just as easily come visit, being only three hours away), she didn't attempt to cross at all since getting married.

Wow! I was just lurking here, but that was incredibly helpful. I was planning on getting married (In Toronto) as soon as my fiance's divorce is finalized. I was already aware of the special approval I would have to get done because of his divorce, but I didn't realize it took 10 weeks for the marriage liscense!!!!!!!! I have been toying with the idea of going to Vegas to get married quickly, and just having a reception in Ontario afterwards. Looks like my mind is made up. Once again VJ saves the day!!!!!!

I'd have to agree! I miss the ignorance!

Bill and I dated for 4 years. One of us would visit the other once a month, and we'd always say boyfriend/girlfriend, and it never caused us any questioning at all. A couple times I crossed with a one way ticket, a couple times we crossed together and I had no time frame for return, and nothing! After I found VJ and applied for the visa I became pretty paranoid about visiting. I still did it, but I was always paranoid!! Part of that was the transition from girlfriend to fiancee and the ring on my finger.

We got married in Vegas (no,, its not what you are thinking, my hubby lived there...) and they are old pro's at turning around marriage certs.. :) Just a thought... little stone chapel was very nice...

Invictus..

Out of the night that covers me,

Black as the Pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods may be

For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud.

Under the bludgeonings of chance

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the Horror of the shade,

And yet the menace of the years

Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll.

I am the master of my fate:

I am the captain of my soul.

William Ernest Henley
