Toads seem more useful than turtles. :P Perhaps we should raise members of Bufonidae. They could save lives. :luv:

Toads can 'predict earthquakes' and seismic activity

By Matt Walker

Editor, Earth News

Common toads appear to be able to sense an impending earthquake and will flee their colony days before the seismic activity strikes.

The evidence comes from a population of toads which left their breeding colony three days before an earthquake that struck L'Aquila in Italy in 2009.

How toads sensed the quake is unclear, but most breeding pairs and males fled.

They reacted despite the colony being 74km from the quake's epicentre, say biologists in the Journal of Zoology.

Let my people go?

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Reminds me of Saturday School. :innocent: Korean Seventh-Day Adventists in our place were very active when I was a kid. I was born and raised a Catholic (I still am) but I went to Saturday School before I was 10 to recite verses, sing songs, and color Bible story books.

In the spring, toads and salamanders and frogs migrate by the millions from one little bog to another. For whatever reason, the bog on the other side of the road is better than the bog they are in. Of course they get squashed by the millions and make the roads all greasy where they decide to cross en masse. So I also suggest...look out for toads and keep the studded snow and mud tires on until they get where they are going! It would be really embarrassing to wipe and smash up your car on a tree because of slimy toad guts all over your tires!!!

is interesting how some animals can predict changes around them. Animals have keen senses that help them avoid predators or locate prey. It is thought that these senses might also help them detect pending disasters. Several countries have conducted research on the detection of earthquakes by animals. There are theories as to how animals may be able to detect earthquakes. One theory is that animals sense the earth's vibrations. Another is that they can detect changes in the air or gases released by the earth
