b0206.gif YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY

Finally done with the interview today at the Bloomington office.

Appointment time: 2.30pm

Actual interview time: ~4pm

Duration of interview: ~10 minutes

I don't know if it worked to our advantage, since interviewers would be more anxious to be done for the day - anyhow that's just my theory. :hehe:

DETAILS

There weren't a lot of groups for the interview before us - I think it was just 4 or 5 couples/families, and I don't think they go to only one interviewer either, so we were pretty anxious when the groups dwindled down and we were the only ones left in the waiting room. It was just me, my husband, and our lawyer. Our lawyer asked asked the receptionist if there's anything amiss because waiting almost 2 hours doesn't normally occur for her clients, but she told us that the IO who was interviewing the family that was sitting in front of us should be ready soon. They were actually interviewed separately, and when the wife came out, she was under a lot of stress and told us the IO was tough. That didn't help our anxiety.

When it came for our turn, it wasn't as bad as expected. She first confirmed the data on the forms we submitted, then asked my husband for his contact info, his current address and how long he has been staying there, and quite a few details on our relationship, why we decided to get married in such a short time (she commented "wow, you didn't waste any time"). She asked him where we got married, what we did after the wedding, and if he has met my parents and if my parents know if we're married. He hasn't met my parents personally yet, but with the verbal nudge of our lawyer I also explained to the IO that my family are planning to fly here to meet him very soon - just working on their visitor visas.

Reading through our file she was able to conclude we have met at work, since we both were listed under the same company. She asked for a copy of our apartment lease (which showed both our names), then turned to me to ask the YES-NO questions on the form (e.g. are you planning to practice espionage, polygamy, etc in the US...) which I promptly answered NO. She looked at my passport, she then noticed I have my AP document already, asked me if I ever left and re-entered the US since my entry on my I-94, if I was ever under a student visa. She put aside my I-94 and told me I can still travel anyway since it's valid till 2011, but I told her that I already quit my job so that's basically inapplicable to my situation now.

She asked why I left my job, and asked me if my ex-company is able to re-hire me anyway (she wasn't clear on why I quit when my I-94 was still VERY valid) and I elaborated that I am under PH contract in US and since that contract ended I was required to go back to PH to continue work, so I had to quit to be able to stay with my husband.

Afterwards, she took my I-94, borrowed my passport so she can photocopy them, and told us she will "just do a couple more checks", but once everything's ok we should receive a notice in the next couple of days. She didn't explicitly say we were approved or not.

Overall, the IO actually asked my husband (the USC) probably 25% more questions than mine (excluding the YES-NO questions), which surprised me. And the first part of the interview she didn't grill us on the dates of stuff, merely mentioned if date "so-and-so" is correct... I theorized that since the IO was probably quite experienced she didn't actually waste any time asking questions that could obviously be concluded on the forms submitted (like where we met, etc) - she didn't actually take a look at ANY of our bona fide photos/receipts/plane tickets, except for the lease.

The IO was very nice and pleasant, and although she didn't really say if we are approved (it was more of a vague 50-50 response from her), our lawyer says that the interview ended in a positive atmosphere, so there shouldn't be anything to worry about. Still, we won't assume a lot right now until we get the notice that the card production is in process - I am a believer of Murphy's Law. Only silver lining we are holding on to was the fact she mentioned to us that green cards will usually take a few weeks to arrive.

Holding off on the celebrations but hoping for the best! B-)

Great news b0212.gif

I've never really been active on this thread, but I thought that I would post our interview experience here since Dom was adjusting from a F-1 visa.

Interview on June 11th at 11:15am: Approved!!

We had our AOS interview last Friday. We arrived in the waiting room around 10:50 for our 11:15am appointment. After reading other interview reviews, I figured we would have a bit of a wait and we brought a couple of books to read while we waited. That turned out to be a good decision b/c we didn’t get called in until almost 12pm and there isn’t much to keep you entertained while you wait.

Our officer apologized about the wait when we entered her office. She swore both of us in and asked for our identification. We gave her our driver’s licenses, our passports, his I-94(that had fallen out), and his EAD. She made a comment about his driver’s license being from TX and mine from NC. We explained that he had attended school in TX the last half of 2009 and how I had just moved to DC at the beginning of this year. She asked Dom why his chose the school in TX and asked for his original I-20. She seemed satisfied with our explanations. Then she asked us about how we had met and when we visited one and other which she seemed to find entertaining. (While I was backing in Italy, we met at the hostel I was staying at and he was working at. Afterwards, we kept in touch. And 4 months later he took a 3 month vacation here in the US, where he drove from Los Angeles through TX. Eventually, coming to NC before going to NYC. He returned several times to visit while staying in NYC. I never expected to see him after meeting him in Florence and after his vacation ended and he went back home, we’ve talked about everyday since then.)

Then, she asked if we had anymore evidence we would like to give her. I told her I could quite remember exactly what we provided, so I might give her a couple of duplicates. We gave her copies of additional joint bank account, our contract from the sale of my townhome in NC, a copy of the check from the sale of the house (a whole $28), health insurance information, dental insurance information, and a copy of our credit cards. Also, we showed her cards that we had received from people for our engagement, wedding, a thank you card from my sister, and cards that my family had sent us while on vacation. I had made several collages of photos of us over the past couple of years and our wedding that we showed her too. She seemed interested in looking through all the cards and photos, but did not ask for any of them.

Then, she asked if we had any questions to ask her. To which we answered ‘No’. She give us a piece of paper and explained that we had to file for his removal of conditions 90 days before his GC expires and went to make copies of our DLs and passports. She asked once again if we had any questions, then led us back out to the waiting room.

She never asked any of the AOS yes or no questions and nothing very detailed about our families names, DOBs, or anything. She even returned his EAD to us and never mentioned that we need to destroy or return it after receiving the GC. Overall it was pretty laid back and quick. I think it lasted about 15-20 mins.

We haven’t received an email yet. Hopefully, we will see something today.
