On August 12, 2010, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this I485 APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS. Please follow any instructions on the notice. If you move before you receive the notice, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283.

If you got the stamp in the passport you can go ahead and look for work, get SSN & driver's license application if you already haven't done that.

I didn't have any stamp on my passport, but I'm already working since I got my EAD 3 weeks ago. As for my SSN, I already have the card. I applied 2 weeks after I arrived in K1 visa (as instructed here in Visa Journey) and asked for amendment in married name the moment we got our marriage certificate.

So, once Green Card is in hand, we don't use the EAD anymore? Just store it at home? No need to renew or cancel?

And just to make sure I got it right: we apply for N-400 90 days before the 3 year resident anniversary? So in my case, Green Card approved on August 2010, I should apply June 2013?

Aaand how long till I can change everything on my SSN card to include my new name and remove the DHS conditions notice? Will they have all my data by the time the GC reaches me or did you guys wait some weeks?

Today my USCIS status was updated with "post decision activity". So I am wondering if I should wait a couple of days to change my SSN card name? Would something still not be updated on the system?

Yeah I have the same status since August 12, and I haven't got my greencard yet. :blink:

Hmm mine took around 12 days to arrive, so I believe it is still normal. Maybe my post decision one was late for some reason.

Once you get the GC, you no longer need the EAD. Some people shred the EAD card or keep it for a memory

You will apply for ROC in August 2012(90 days before the GC expires)the N-400 is for Citizenship only which can be applied for after 3 years of marriage but you have to remove conditions first on the GC.

Once you get the GC you can go to SS, they should have it in the system.

If you hav the I-551 (permanent resident) stamp in your passport,

don't take any BS from the SSA clerk if he pretends not to know what it is.

You're good to go. All he has to do is check on his computer to verify it.

We went to the SSA 2 days after she got the stamp and they pretended not to know what that was. After a few minutes, the system accepted it and she now has her SSN.
