EAD card received today dated Jun 10... already set for SS tomorrow :)

Took 23 days since first mail of card production ordered. I got three emails in total.

Well... It looks like I have to start to work and stop procrastinating :)

I would wait on that, I went to SS office the next day after I received my EAD card and it wasn't verifying so now I have to wait however long to get the new SS card.

Well... I received my EAD on Wed afternoon and went to SS office on Thursday at 10 am. I filed in my application at home. At the SS took a number... Wait for the call... The gril asked me to show my immigration documents (they take only originals of everything) and I gave her my passport, EAD and the applicationI made at home. Five minutes of data entry and she say "it will arrive at your address in two weeks"... And that was all... I asked a couple of people and they say it will take less :)

Same with Driver license... I have my New Mexico Driver license and went to check... They did ask for lots of thing inlcuded your SS... I said I didnt have any... Then picture and again "it will arrive in the mail in 30 days"... They took my NM DL and gave me a note as a temporary DL.

Smoother than that... Baby butt :)

I am ridiculously excited about getting a drivers licence and changing my SSN to my married name. After being here 9 months it's all starting to come together.

Let's hope that when I get my EAD or Greencard that it will go just as smooth. I had a really bad time trying to get this all done months ago, but the SSA wouldn't budge on changing my name with just my NOA. (But, the same office did it for a friend in the same process... nice.... ) My Ontario DL will expire on July 10th, so if I am able to go the SSA the next day after getting my EAD or GC, perhaps I'll be able to go the DMV the day after with the letter. I was told it takes 24 hours for the SSA's change to show up in the system so the DMV can then verify everything.

Just GO!! Go and try... make a few appointments at the DMV around the time you might get your EAD...Don't know your state but here appointments are all taken until half of July already. Your timeline says June 28 July 3 so you might get it on mail after July 10. You can always cancel the appointments. If not.. walk in.. and try different offices. If they say NO in one.. go to another one. What do you have to lose!!

SS is not a requirement, at least in Florida. Answer what they ask you with no comments... Do you have a SS? NO... you don't. If you say YES or It is in process they will might not do it because they need to wait for the number to be in the system.

I can't tell what happened at the SSA... but it was no problem either. I checked a couple of people that had same problem (DEA was not in the system) and it looks like something in their names was wrong. So... check on that too.

Besos to everyone!!

BTW.. I'm happy I am getting this done fast... Im getting some retribution for my Interview Cancellation :(

In a weeks time, before my I-94 expired, I had been to the SSA three times and the DMV twice. The DMV wanted to help me, but they couldn't verify my name in the system as my SS said my maiden name and my NOA papers said my married name. They even told me to see if the SSA would change my name in the system but not give me a card... but the SSA manager would not do so. SSA will not do anything for me until I have my EAD or Greencard in hand. I dread going there for the 4th time.... but once that's done, the DMV stuff should be a breeze! The appointments in Orlando usually are open for the next week, and when I went without appointment, I waited 45 mins... not too bad. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I will also share my experience. I live in Minnesota and got my Driving Permit after two weeks of my arrival. No SSN needed.

When I got my SSN I went to the office and update my personal information. I have been driving a lot, but I'm only allow to drive with an adult with driver license in the passenger seat. I should be able to take the Road test very soon!! They say that after 3 months of having the driving permit you can apply for your Driver License.

Now, I am waiting for my GC to change my name on the SS.

Best of luck to everybody.

That's very similar to my experience, I've been waiting since April for them to change my SSn to my married name so I can get my DL but nothing. I did the same thing when I got my EAD, I went the day after to SSN office and they couldn't verify my EAD so I have to wait again. It's very frustrating!

Congratulations everyone! I have my interview this tuesday, can't wait to get that over with! :D

Everything went smooth :)

SS and Driver Licence done... Now just waiting for my adorable mail man!!!

I'm glad your trip to SSN office was successful!! Didn't work out for me, but that's ok, I'll wait hehe
