Hi everyone,

I have a question for a friend of mine, who is a little confused since immigration procedures tend to be... complicated.

So she is here in the US on a student visa, and she has been engaged to a US citizen for 2 years. They really want to get married, and want to do it the right way.

So where does she go from here?

Thanks a lot, you guys are always so helpful,

Have a great day!

They get married, simple as that! There is not right or wrong way to do it...it's up to each person's preference. ;)

The procedural questions come into play depending on what the couple wants to do with regards to the adjusting of status for the immigrant spouse. If the spouse wants to continue residence in the US (not leave the country) the I-130 and I-485 petitions will have to be filed concurrently. If the spouse leaves the US, the citizen files the I-130 petition, waits for it to be approved, after which the foreign spouse applies for the immigrant visa at the US consulate in the home country.
