I've been thinking about getting an online certificate for this BUT I don't really know if spending $1500 is really worth it. (usa careers pricing)

Anybody who is now studying this course or is already working as a Medical Billing and Claims specialist here?

Any advice? Tips? Info?

How easy is it to get a job afterwards?

How much is the pay for new entry level?

What school did you go to?

DO you really get to work at home after obtaining the certificate or have to have experience first?

Thanks!

PS: Do I have to get my University degree transcribed for this? TOFEL? GMAT?

Your local school may offer medical billing courses for a lot less. Real catch there is that most doctors look for experienced billers which leaves you to a catch 22 situation. At least that's my experience.

IMHO, those programs are scams.

This is a job that requires no degree or certificate as it is basically just a billing clerk. The $1,500 Certificate you will receive isn't from an accredited course (and often times not even an accredited school).

I believe most of these courses are just designed as money making schemes by the institutions offering them.

Medical billing and coding is a dying job and is being replaced with automated systems that will process this when the clinician sees the patient. A fair amount of stimulus money has been allocated to help fund Medical offices to buy one step computer systems that will hold medical records and do the billing and coding at the same time.

TOEFL is an institution that tests the English Competency of non-English native speakers. I took a test on this about 2 years ago, when I was still in the Philippines.

GMAT is a test that you take before you enroll for MBA.

If you want your transcript of records transcribe to a US grading system, you need to do this with WES or similar programs/service like ERES and IERF.

chinese_mutt - it's been a while - have you decided what to do?

FWIW, the local community colleges in yer area MIGHT offer same type of coursework and certification - be sure and look around, make some telephone calls, inquire.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
