I think this is a cool idea and I'd love to send some postcards from the UK while I'm still here. But if it's only open to Canadian VJer's then that's alright :)

That would be cool!

Any idea how much postage it costs to mail something from the US to the UK? Probably not too too much I'd think.

I have a friend who lived in Pakistan for a while and that was a confusing postage situation. I think I spent $15 to send her a envelope with a little extra thickness once. Not so cool!

I believe it's 98¢ internationally for something like a postcard :)

I can only tell you the other way around. I think it's about 80p or something like that. Hardly enough to break the bank :)

Within USA: 44¢ for a LARGE postcard, or ONLY 28¢ for a small postcard up to size 4" x 6" (standard size, really)

To Canada: 75¢

Internationally (overseas): 98¢

FROM CANADA: according to www.canadapost.ca:

Thanks Ashenflowers,

I've just emailed you my questionnaire answers!

Oh, yeah postcard stamps are awesome. Send a quick note (or a 4 by 6 photo with an addess on the back to a loved one) for less than an enveloped card. I wanted to use postcard stamps in Canada then found out Canada Post make no distinction between postcards and letters in envelopes.

Thanks for the Qs Ant. It's awesome to hear people are interested! I'll give it some thought to see how we could do this as the safest way possible for everyone. Here's some answers off the top of my head though:

1) I was thinking once a month or so, but there's no max really! ;) Enough to keep it fun and engaging, but not too much to overwhelm ppl with busy lives. Does everyone think that sounds reasonable?

2) I haven't decided on this yet... it all depends on how people feel about having their address shared with a bunch of people. Need to think on this.

3) I thought for cost purposes we could just do postcards. It's a dying art really!

4) Since it was my idea, I will take the responsibility of keeping the master list. As long as everyone is ok with that. :) I don't thinking email addresses or any other contact info would be necessary to share. Mailing address only.

5) I kind of like the idea of keeping it just for VJers who participate in the Canada forum... to be honest.

K.... going through and answering those questions gave me some ideas. How about we kinda do it in a secret santaish way? I will gather a master list of people who are interested... and every month I will do a random draw, and we will each get a new person to send our postcard to! I will notify everyone via PM or email (whatever method you prefer) each month or two (or however long this ends up carrying on for), who to send your postcard to that month! That way everyone gets to share with different people, but there isn't just a long list of addresses going out to everyone. Well, over time I suppose the address would get passed to everyone who is participating, but it would strictly be amongst the participants only.

You could even put in a max of the amount of times you want to do this. Opt out any time ;) lol If you only want to send one postcard, then I'd only include you once, and your address will only go out to one person!

Is everyone comfortable with that? Or do we think there's a better way?

Ashenflowers-Thanks for your reply to my questions..Here are my answers to those too...

1) Yes, once a month is reasonable enough...

I will partipate in a few rounds (at least once for everyone), and see how it goes from there....

2) We can share addresses with the people on the list only...We just need to do a headcount....

3) Postcards only are fine with me...I agree, it's low-cost, easy to do, and it's a dying art...

4) Ok, no problem, Ashenflowers..I leave it up to you to be the "master" of this "VJ postcard project"...

Ashenflowers=VJ Postcard Project Master..Got it..;)

I trust that you are able to keep addresses and/or other contact information amongst the participants only...

5) That's fine about VJers who participate (regardless of if they are Canadian or not) in the Canadian forum..no problem....

Ok, so if I got it right..Here are is the headcount so far...

Is it ok if we keep a list like this going, so that we can keep track of who is particpating, on any given month? Thanks....

(please make changes/corrections to the list, if needed..)

VJ Postcard Project Participants (Round 1, April 2010)...

ashenflowers (CA, USA)

Canadiandggal (?)

CdnMN (MN, USA)

Hugglebuggles (CO, USA)

Kayla*Mathew (KY, USA)

lilacvioletiris (MI, USA)

OBX (NJ, USA)

Pauley (NY, USA)

sdw (NY, USA)

steflovesbran (ON, CANADA)

Kathryn41 (GA, USA)

Ant+D+BabyA (NY, USA) (I'll e-mail you my contact info and questionnaire info today to confirm...)

By the way...More questions/concerns:

6) What are we supposed to write on the postcards? Anything goes? Something specific? Leave it blank?

7) How about if we do a "writing topic of the month", or something like that, which we can all commonly write about on our postcards, to make things more interesting?

You can choose the first topic, Ashenflowers, since this project was your idea...

8) Umm..On what we will address each other, name-wise on the postcards: I think we need first/last names too, when you give the contact info, ashenflowers...Lol..As I don't think that the USPS/Canada Post will deliver using our VJ names....(lol..mine won't deliver to Ant+D+BabyA....). So make sure to include your first and last name too, when you sent your contact info to ashenflowers...

9) What type of postcards do you want to send? Or is it, anything goes here too? Or would you like a specific theme?

Thanks too for posting the postal rates for postcards...Helpful, indeed.....

Lol..I never knew about the 28cents stamps either...interesting....

Keep up the updates! Looking forward to hearing more about the project!

Ant
