I haven't changed my name on my passport to my married name. Does anyone know if this will be a problem at our interview or if they even ask to see my passport? I wa stold it would take 4-6 weeks to get it back and with our interview May3rd I really don't want to risk not having my passport back in time for my flight. I could get it expeditated for almost $200! so is it really necessary? Any info would be appreciated, I have my name changed on everything else though, just haven't travelled out of the country since last March.

What name have you filled out all your paperwork with?

Maiden or married?

I'm pretty sure the visa will be issued in the name that is in your passport.

I have been using my married name but the visa is for my husband not for me. I just don't know if they will have a problem at the embassy with my passport being in my maiden name.

Dont worry about it Myra. I didnt change my name (legally) yet either as I wanted to get the immigration stuff done first and didnt want any issue as to docs having diff names. Plus, its not law that you HAVE to change your name so keep things as is and then just file the petition for the name change when he gets here. If your worried about it being an "evidence of relationship" you can always get the petition from your County Courthouse and get it filled out and filed and then bring the copies to the interview with you so you can approve you are filing for a name change. I might do that too. *still waitin on the interview however  ahem)

Check with the County you live in to see what papers you need to fill out and file with the Court house. count on a filing fee - somewhere around 50-100 bucks.

Well I have my name changed on my drivers license and on a government ID card so I figure if they need to see some type of evidence they can use those but then I also thought they might find it "suspicious" that my passport hasn't changed. I really don't want to renew it again when it still has 3 more years before it expires. I guess I will let them know I was worried about it not getting back to me in time if they really need to know. FYI Alicia, the medical is $100 US and then your husband will need $20k Jamaican for "other test if needed" They didn't say if they needed some but just in case that will cover shots, blood test etc. So that will problay be about $300 US in all. Medical scheduled for 4/19/10 in MoBay. FYI that was the first open appt they had so when you get a CC this week  you will probaly want to check out Kingston first.

Oh! Your fine then. No need to change passport girl. Keep it as is and your drivers license and all that is a good way to show bonafide stuff. Perfect!

Wow.. 300 us? JEEZ. My husband got all his shots but I will tell him so he knows to have what he needs just in case. I hope he doesnt have to go to Kingston- Mobay clinic much closer for us and cheaper (travel is ugh as you know from the west to Kingston)

Thanks for the heads up doll!

btw- how long did it take you to get your name changed on your DL?

It took me 15 minutes. :D First I changed my social security card and that took 2 weeks to get back then I took my marriage certificate and social security card to the DMV and paid $25 for ID and DL and took a pic and 10 minutes later my name is changed. FYI if you have ever been issued an ID card you have to change BOTH you ID and DL card. The DMV will not let you do one without doing the other. Maybe it will be cheaper when you call for appt but it is definately $100 US and 20k JA, the currency may change so it could be less than 200 US. Make sure you call and schedule his medical ASAP because it look like they are booking up quick, the lady assured me that we would have the medical results back before our interview date. i made it clear we had to have it and she said no problem  sorry I just had to laugh. She said it would be back before then.

HI Myra, nuh worry yuh self, I have been married for over 2 years and just changed my name legally. We have even traveled back a Yard with my Passport with the maiden name. I only recently sent it to have my name changed. It will not be a problem at the interview if your passport still shows your maiden name will be fine. Normally those types of questions will arise at the removal of conditions process.

Good Luck on your interview!
