Latest news - today (14 June) is officially 2 months from the AOS NOA1,

so I made an infopass for 24 June to try and get emergency AP if the

AOS/AP is not approved by that date in the normal course of processing.

She wants to go to Thailand for her son's graduation in July,

so she is preparing to get a document showing that he will be graduating

to show them at the infopass meeting, along with her birth certificate and his.

15 June - AOS interview document arrived yesterday (for July 20),

so all we need is the AP to come in before the infopass meeting

on June 24. We are hopeful to get that, but if not, the infopass

meeting should take care of the AP requirement.

My wife will be at her son's university graduation on July 6 and

come back in time for the interview on July 20.

EAD = Employment Authorization Document; AP = Advance Parole (approval for travel before GC obtained)

The EAD for my wife was approved yesterday (June 16), along with the AP document which was mailed.

She will be traveling to Thailand roughly two weeks from now, but will return just before our AOS interview July 20.

How long does it take for the EAD to be produced & mailed?

The email notice said one month to be pessimistic, but what has been the actual experience?

The reason for asking is because I would like her to apply for the SSN before she goes to Thailand if possible.

I know she can get that with the EAD document, but since we have to wait an undetermined time,

could we ask for the EAD document if we already have an infopass appointment set up for June 24?

I kind of doubt it because this isn't an emergency, but the IRS needs her SSN for the 2009 tax filing

which was already sent.

Document production or Oath Ceremony

On June 22, 2010, we ordered production of your new card. Please allow 30 days for your card to be mailed to you. If we need something from you we will contact you. If you move before you receive the card, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283.

This step applies to applications that result in an applicant receiving a card (such as a green card) or other document (such as a naturalization certificate, refugee travel documents or advance parole). Applications will be in this step from the time the order to produce the card/document is given until the card/document is produced and mailed to the applicant. You can expect to receive your card/document within 30 days of the approval of your application.

INFOPASS REPORT - June 24, 2010

The main objective of this meeting was to see if we could get an AP document from them on the spot.

We had the AP application all filled out along with 2 passport-sized photos. She has to go to Thailand

as soon as possible for her son's university graduation on July 8.

As of today, the USCIS case status reporting function only says "Post-Decision Activity"

and that was as of June 16. Her EAD, however showed "Document Production" and

we got an email saying document production had taken place on June 22 (for the EAD,

not AP).

What we found from the infopass was that we could NOT get an AP card on the spot,

because he checked the records which said the AP card went to "Document Production"

on June 18!

That means they already printed & mailed the AP card on that date and they couldn't have

anybody walking around with 2 AP cards...

For future reference, if you need an emergency AP card for something related to a

relative back home (for example, a son), you would need the birth certificate of the

relative or other proof of the relationship, not just merely having the same name.

We had her son's transcript and the document showing he was awarded his degree,

but nothing with the actual date of the ceremony and his name on it. All that was moot,

because the AP card had already been mailed to (but not received by) us. So we have no

alternative except to wait for the AP to come in the mail the next few days...

By the way, my 30-day metro card (NYC MTA) was somehow gobbled up by

the security scanner at 26 Federal Plaza. In any case I bought it with a credit

card and kept the receipt so I got a FULL refund by mail!

AOS interview on July 20 - if we don't get the AP card very soon she may skip the

graduation and just wait for the interview.

No cigar yet, but I just called my mom at home and the mail came - USCIS telling us what we already know -

AP has been approved - now we're hopeful for getting THE ACTUAL CARD in the next day or two, but like they

say at American Express, ya can't leave home without it...my wife is still traveling back home from the city.

We had a "break-of-dawn" infopass meeting and I just went to work.

I know what the EAD looks like, there is a reasonable facsimile

easily found online. My mom started reading the AP document

to me and I cut her off, asking if there was a card attached.

When she said there was a photo on the paper I was pretty

sure it was in fact the AP document, but now I have something

to compare it to when I go home.
