My wife decided to change her last named to be hyphenated, like [Maiden name]-[Husband's name]. We submitted all of our AOS/AP/EAD paperwork with her name like that. However, on the NOA1s that we received, there is no hyphen, but rather only a space, like [Maiden name] [Husband's name]. Does anyone know if USCIS formats all hyphenated names like that, or if it was oversight on their part? Does anyone else with a hyphenated name (and I'm sure there are some of you posting on here) have experience where USCIS either recognizes or fails to recognize the hyphen?

Hi! I had the same experience. I have hyphenated last name but in the NOAs they didn't put hyphen so we wrote them a letter then after a week I called 'coz I didn't get acknowledgment letter about it and the customer service agent told me to wait for 10 days. I just assumed that they changed it though and then I did my biometrics. When I got the interview notice, it's still not hyphenated so I called USCIS and they escalated my call to someone who have better access to check my name and it was not changed so they just put a service request for both applications (AOS & EAD). I got a letter and e-mail about that service request which was just on time because they ordered card production for my EAD 2 days after I made the call. I suggest that you just call them right away and try to talk to someone who could put the service request. I got the EAD with hyphenated name. Good luck!!!

It's best to call and let them know as soon as possible of the error. My first and last name are both hyphenated and were correctly filled out when I sent out the forms. However, the NOA and biometrics both came out as unhyphenated. So we called and USCIS put in an "typo service request".

A couple of days later, I received the notice from USCIS that my name has been corrected. After that, my name came out correctly hyphenated.

Good luck!

I am not sure about the AOS and EAD because my husband is the one who immigrated. However, I hypenated my name after our marriage. When I went to the social security office for the name change, they told me that thier system does not allow the hypen. My last name looks like a compound last name on my card or example Mary Sue Thomas Smith. So when I went to change my name on my drivers license, I included the hyphen and they were able to do it.
