So my wife needs to mail some documents for the visa from Russia to here.

How should she write the address?

And any other idea's about mailing from Russia would be nice.

She should write the address as you would when mailing within the USA. Then just put США on the last line of the address.

The best options I know of are DHL or the Russian post office. She should just go in and ask what options they have for mailing to the US. DHL is the best options for guaranteed fast service but it's more expensive. You can also air-mail things at the post office. Rates are comparable to what you would spend to sent something the other way.

What SMR said.

The Russian post doesn't care what the format of the address is, all they care about is the "США" part so they know what country to send it to. Once it's been handed off to the country being delivered to, it's up to them to figure out the address. So have her write the address just as you would here, include the "США" part, and it should get here fine, especially if it's just documents.

As always, you guys are a world of help.

I can't thank you guys enough for all the help you provide to myself and I'm sure everyone else.

Hopefully I shouldn't have too many more questions though, as we're getting down to the end of the visa.

What everyone said is correct. Now depending on how fast you need it, that would probably decide how to send it typically it takes 2-3 months for a regular mail envelope or package to make it to Houston from St. Petersburg so you probably wouldn't want to do that, depending on the time of year. We have heard in the past couple of weeks that "some mail has not been getting through" We don't know if this is true because we haven't tried sending anything but tea that was sent did get here in the 2 month average.

Wow, I don't think we've ever had documents take that long. For a document size packet, it's normally taken about a month, 6 weeks on the outside. But I agree that if time is a factor, send via DHL.

I'm scoping the wonderful vastness of the net for a good answer, but any idea roughly how much it costs to DHL a document size package?

It's been a while since we did that, but I think it was in the $75 to $85 range.

Best way to do this is to call DHL directly. 1-800-225-5345.

Yeah, I know I could probably get an exact price from them.

I was just fishing for a ball park estimate.

So far I think it's going to be close to 100$, but I can't be sure.

It's not really a need to know question, I'm just curious and I'm sure the wife will ask me anyhow.

For ballpark, it depends on how fast you want it to get there. For $100, I would expect it should get there within a week.

The Russian postal service is having major problems due to an internal reorganization. It's such a problem that eBay is thinking about banning Russian users (Google Translation).

I recommend that you use DHL to transport your documents. You'll pay more, but at least your documents will make it.

That's actually a good point, I wasn't really factoring time.

Really, two maybe three weeks wouldn't be a problem, but a month and change at the earliest will definitely fluff up our projected time frame.

Either way, I'm sure I'm going to be shashleek for not giving her a better heads up.

I hate the whole being far apart, but sometimes it can save your ####.
