How about sending via FedEx? It costs more, but they tend not to "lose things" like the Phil Post..

If you use FedEx they will hand it off to Air21 for final delivery. I really don't like that idea so I only use DHL. DHL is the only international company that has DHL employees in the Phils. Just get the best address you can from her, they'll find her! The way the cities there are laid out, you really have to be local to ever find anything anyway..lol

Kevin, I woulda used DHL, but they have closed down offices on the west coast. Went with FedEx when I had to send Embassy documents, and envelope got there in 5 days, so I am sold on FedEx to get vital docs around the world.

Woah really? That stinks :( I know for sending anything of value, Air21 hits you hard for "fees" and taxes but I guess they can't really if it's only documents. I had no idea DHL had pulled out of ANYWHERE? They're a global monster so that's pretty surprising.

Make copies of everything first just as a back up, and mail regular postal, don't insure, or any extras, cheap as possible, write on the customs sheet if needed "documents only" and NO VALUE all over it

Hopefully they won't charge her any tax/customs fees. So far I have been lucky this way, I have mailed cell phones, usb cables, watches, anything my asawa needs , we go this method and it works without problem

The first few times we claimed a value on items, customs will charge 5x the value , making it impossible to get the item

If you can find DHL near your area in the US, better send it through DHL. We used to send via FEDEX before and it will take 5 days excluding weekends, but when we used DHL for my interview docs it only took 3 days including weekends. If possible make two original copies each of docs that you will send her so that if the thing get lost you can send another one.

Postal Annex has DHL now. We have several of them here in San Diego. But their rate to PH is about $20 more for their small box that fits documents. You can go on DHL website and see if there's one near you.

Shame of Phil postal system!!!

I sent my mom the peso bills that I brought here in the states amounting to Php 2,700 which was suppose to be my pocket money. That was like Nov '09. I thought there will be an available money changer on the day that I had my POE (for my food, and stuff). But then there wasn't since I arrived night time at LAX.

ok.. So the envelop was comprised of 2.5K peso bills, an atm card (account is blocked now)for my bank in PI( I accidentally brought it with me so I had to return it home), and a letter. The bills and ATM was sealed and there's no way they can see it through from outside. I know it is risky to send this type of belongings but I threw a shot.

So in my despair, I called USPS to tell them about the concern. They said, the item was not traceable by the time it goes out of the US. YES, it went out of US territory.

So SHAME on Phil postal system and postal people. They are so hard to entrust with the service that they are rendering.

It's better to use private courier than expect your stuffs to be stolen!
