E-Mail Translations

I'm in the home stretch to finishing up my I-129F (with extra front-loaded information) and I had a question about translated e-mails. I'm currently including the original e-mail and then the translation right behind the original. Is this all right to do?

That's fine. But USCIS won't be looking at that much, you know that. They are only concerned that you have met within the last two years.

Your consulate will be able to read the emails in your native language (I assume Japanese, right?). Translations won't hurt, of course

Thinking about it, you're absolutely right. I had recalled that translations weren't necessarily necessary for the consulate, but I was under the impression (for some reason) USCIS might balk a bit if I didn't include the translations (I'm including them anyway). The language is in Japanese; thank goodness the translation part of this step is over.

I'm sort of in the same boat as you. We use Russian to communicate. All of our correspondence is in Russian.

We did not include any e-mails for USCIS, because I felt like it wasn't needed (and it wasn't). You can front load, it helps to carry less stuff to the interview.

I will be bringing our original e-mails/chats in Russian to the consulate on the day of the interview in case they decide they want to take a look.

I have a SLIGHTLY off-topic question for you two. Did you and your fiance(e)s exchange any very personal sentiments or expressions that perhaps do not need tto be read or would not want to be read by the officer at the Embassy/Consulate?

Is it OK to black out overly personal exchanges in an email or chat session log file?

I have a SLIGHTLY off-topic question for you two. Did you and your fiance(e)s exchange any very personal sentiments or expressions that perhaps do not need tto be read or would not want to be read by the officer at the Embassy/Consulate?

Is it OK to black out overly personal exchanges in an email or chat session log file?

It is definitely OK to black out intimate or personal conversations. But we decided not to.... they can read it all they want. I mean, ####### do they expect? Two people in love discussing weather?

I did black out some pretty personal stuff that found it's way into otherwise innocent emails. I think we only included a few emails in our K1 submission, and I bought a ton to the interview. They weren't even looked at!

Oh wow! We're definitely on the same boat then! The more "difficult" ones to translate were the ones with a mix of English and Japanese. I thought about not front loading, but then I figured that doing so will make things a bit easier on her as she's not quite used to this amount of paperwork and the stuff that the embassy will request will be more than enough to keep her busy. I'll be sending her a copy of the I-129F package once the NOA2 is issued and any e-mails between each other after the initial sending of the I-129F package. It's a relief that I won't necessarily have to translate any more.

I didn't black out anything, but am super selective which ones I'm sending. I had considered blacking out parts of it, but I heard from others that it might raise suspicion and that it was better not to (to be on the safe side). You don't have to use all the e-mail correspondence between you and your fiancee. I'd just recommend sending a sample from the e-mails. In my case, I sampled using 1 e-mail conversation per week over the course of the relationship. Hope that helps.
