At no point during the interview process did the question come up as to whether or not my then-fiance had insurance, or if I would be put onto it. Now, I was also a K1, but I don't see how that would really affect anything one way or another for the spousal visa either.

I could be mistaken, but I really don't see that as being an issue. Financial support is what they will mostly be interested in, that he and/or your co-sponsors are over the poverty line bracket.

At the current time, there is no requirement to have health insurance in the USA. I belive with Health reform that will change, but not right now

I do not have health insurance to provide to my husband at the moment - I am only working a temp job. The CO did ask if he would have health insurance when he arrived here and my husband answered honestly, that I have the paperwork to fill out, but have not yet done so (am getting my own plan through BCBS).

I know it seems to be a standard question now at the interview, but we were not asked. I thought they were just asking as a means to inform people; perhaps making sure that coming from Canada we would be aware the healthcare system is different (although I'm sure most would know.)

My USC now-wife was unemployed at the time of my K-1 interview in Vancouver. We had a cosponsor - her mother - for the I-134s. I was asked about medical insurance at the interview, and answered honestly that we probably weren't going to have any for a while, in all likelihood until after I filed for AOD and EAD and found work. The CO did express concern about the lack of medical insurance (particularly in regards to my (very mild and under tight control, but she had no real way of knowing that) Type II diabetes), but acknowledged that it was not, in itself, any kind of valid reason to deny the visa.

Just be honest about the situation, and everything should be fine.

In answer to your question:

I was never asked about my healthcare coverage during any of my immigration interviews...

Heck, I didn't even have health insurance until several months later, after I was approved, and got my green card...lol....And until then, I had a 'immigrant healthcare dilemma', and had to pay out of pocket for a lot of my expenses too (not good...).

And they cannot deny your interview for not having healthcare coverage either....

(I'm not sure after 2014 though...as it is law that after then that everyone has health insurance...)

Yes, with the high cost of healthcare here in the USA, you definitely need health insurance for your family.

There are many options out there, so you do have to look around, depending on costs, healthcare needs, conditions, etc.

There are many health insurance companies out there, so shop around for your family's

healthcare needs there!

Your husband, as the immigrant, needs to look into healthcare options for themselves here in the USA, and the sooner you look for such, the better!

I don't want you to be stuck in an 'immigrant healthcare dilemma' either!

OK, I really don't normally post in the Canadian forum, cuz it just feels weird because I don't feel it and dont get the sense of humor (America's Hat?!?!).

That said, I just want to suggest getting International Traveler's Insurance to fill the gap until going onto Spouse's health care plan at work.

It works for me.
