that sucks! hope you're able to get a new mattress soon!

Already replaced the mattress with a $600 one that is not as good as the Denver Mattress but at least it doesn't smell of cigs.

No, No, I'd try to recover some of my money by reselling it

It's out there in the garage right now. We're thinking to put it up for sale disclosing the cig smell and hoping someone takes it off our hands.

I have never tried this, but I subscribe to a mailing list which features home cleaning tips where this comes highly recommended, even for smoke....

Regarding the poll, I would never buy a used mattress - just the thought of other people's oils and ####### all over the thing....*shudder*

I'd never buy a used mattress. I wouldn't take one if it was given to me. There can be so much "stuff" in them.

I guess I've been a college student too long. We buy and sleep on used mattresses, couches, floors, sleeping bags, blow up beds. To me buying a lightly used quality mattress is like sleeping on a mattress at a hotel when you travel. If that is so gross and nasty what do you all do when you travel or stay at a friend or families house?

I've been to college too. I never purchases a used mattress.

As for hotels - yes, you're right. Those aren't brand new either. But I'm not in hotels every day, or even close to it. And besides, those used mattresses don't end up in my house.

Friends and family - if they're the kind of people who's homes I'm willing to stay in, chances are very good I trust their sense of cleanliness.

Good ol CL strikes again! If it is not some pervert selling VHS Gay Porn tapes out of his apartment, then there are felons lurking to take you for anything they can. I do feel for the OP in getting taken. But like buying a used tooth brush, I have NEVER heard of anyone buying a USED mattress. I mean, you have NO idea, where that mattress has been, or what hanky panky spanky has taken place on it. OP, time to cut your losses now, and go out and buy yourself a NICE new mattress. Too many people skimp on their mattress. Imagine, and place that you spend one-third your life, and you dont want it to be the most comfortable and restorative it can be. Peace be with you.

You have now. VJ is full of weirdos.
I suspect Hopp has never even been within a block of a thrift-store. There you can find used:
  • furniture (such as desks, chairs--and also beds/bedding)
  • appliances/utensils
  • clothing (including---undergarments)

(the ones i bolded, IMO, should have been tossed--but the fact that thrift-stores will sell them implies there are buyers for such, majority probably NOT on VJ).

2005/07/10 I-129F filed for Pras

2005/11/07 I-129F approved, forwarded to NVC--to Chennai Consulate 2005/11/14

2005/12/02 Packet-3 received from Chennai

2005/12/21 Visa Interview Date

2006/04/04 Pras' entry into US at DTW

2006/04/15 Church Wedding at Novi (Detroit suburb), MI

2006/05/01 AOS Packet (I-485/I-131/I-765) filed at Chicago

2006/08/23 AP and EAD approved. Two down, 1.5 to go

2006/10/13 Pras' I-485 interview--APPROVED!

2006/10/27 Pras' conditional GC arrives -- .5 to go (2 yrs to Conditions Removal)

2008/07/21 I-751 (conditions removal) filed

2008/08/22 I-751 biometrics completed

2009/06/18 I-751 approved

2009/07/03 10-year GC received; last 0.5 done!

2009/07/23 Pras files N-400

2009/11/16 My 46TH birthday, Pras N-400 approved

A mattress is one thing I would never buy used. Never ever ever.

I did lay down once on a hotel mattress only to discover it was soaked with urine.

Definitely agree with the first point.

second point,

Seriously? I would be getting some serious comps from that hotel chain...for years to come.....
