How Long Can You Visit Home With A Green Card

If you go back to your country of origin with a Green Ccard are there any restrictions on how ling you can be out of the country ?

Yes. You are allowed to 'visit' another country generally for up to 6 months without much difficulty. Anything over 6 months can become increasingly problematic as USCIS may think you are no longer living in the US, and you may have to prove that you have not abandoned your green card. If you know you are going to be outside of the US between 1 to 2 years - for example, on a temporary employment contract or going to school - you need to apply for a Re-entry permit before you leave, which is special travel permission showing that you do not intend to abandon the green card and that your time outside of the US is only temporary.
