China -> Canada -> USA

My Chinese Fiancee got her K1 this week WOOHOO kicking.gif!

Anyway, I was looking at cheap airline flights and one of them goes from Beijing to Canada to US. If she is not leaving the airport and will only be going from one international flight to another, does she need a transit visa for Canada?

Thanks!

There's got to be a cheaper way...

USUALLY - you can have HER shop around the travel agents that are IN the Tianhe building - let them compete on pricing.

I'd strongly suggest staying out of any Canadien leg of the flight - it's a hassle.

If I had to suggest an easier routing for you -

try BeiJing to New York via Continental, then New York to Philadelphia on train, you meet her at the airport.

The PKG/JFK route is direct, over the north pole.

FWIW, she might have a travel agent in her pocket and you not know about it, yet, some guanxi she's not mentioned to you.

If you need some hard core advice from the old timers - come over to http://chinafamilyvisa.com - we've a coupla of travel agent threads there.

Good Luck !

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Does she? I would think if she was staying in the airport- international terminal- that she wouldnt need a transit visa.. its sort of no mans land after all. I didnt need on in germany, or in paris on either of my layovers, as long as I stayed in the international terminal of the airport.

Just my 2 cents though. Call 1 800 622 6232, they will tell you for sure, or at least point you in the right direction :)

Black as the Pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods may be

For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud.

Under the bludgeonings of chance

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the Horror of the shade,

And yet the menace of the years

Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll.

I don't know if you are the Canadian or the American, but neither Germany nor France (generally) require transit visas for Canadians or Americans - so different kettle of fish :)

Frequently asked questions:

Visiting Canada

Do I need a visa if I am travelling through Canada without stopping or visiting?

Canada requires the citizens of certain countries and territories to have visas when they enter Canada. If you need a visa to visit Canada, then you will need a transit visa to travel through Canada without stopping or visiting. You will need a transit visa even if you stop in Canada for less than 48 hours. To find out if your country is on this list, see list of countries.

There is no fee for a transit visa.

Im actually neither.. hahah, Im a South African living in Canada, moving to the US.. rather complicated. Travelling around on my SA passport is quite restrictive. I was just trying to be helpful by giving that phone number to call, they will talk her through everything she needs. Again, sorry, was just trying to help.

I don't know why you are sorry! No need to be sorry for posting valid info!

I didn't mean to sound like I was correcting you either, but if I have info to share, i'm going to share it - as you did and rightfully so :)

Seriously though, and this is just a vent...seems kinda pointless (even if it is free) to get a transit visa if you never intend to leave the airport.... :bonk: Sometimes I think the government rather enjoys telling people to fill out more forms (fill out part B in triplicate, do not sign section 1.4 until you get here, but get page 5 notarized a maximum of 3 months before signing section 1.4...bla bla bla...endless headaches).
