So I just found out today that one of my VJ friends who has filed AOS made the check out to the USCIS- I almost did the same thing!! Please, Please, PLEASE make sure you fill it out correctly!!!! The check, or money order, or bank's Cashier's Check is made out to: U.S. Department of Homeland Security. She may get an RFE for that.. we'll see what happens.. I'll update with the response that is given! Fellow VJer's- it is imperative that you check, recheck, and check AGAIN ALL your paperwork, corresponding documents, names on the backs of pictures, ETC.. You all know this will save you time and in most circumstances, MONEY!! Just wanted to give a heads up. Thank you, Best Wishes, and Good Luck to All!

It was an honest mistake because I didn't carry the instructions with me when I did the cashier's check at the bank. Im usually very meticulous. I know I will probably get an RFE and thats okay. I learned a valuable lesson. Thanks.

Your friend probably won't receive an RFE. She will most likely receive back her whole package including the cheque because the cheque is made out improperly. She will then have to re-submit the whole package, this time with the correct cheque. Yes, it does pay to read and follow the instructions carefully :). Your advice is good.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Kathryn thank you for the input. I am the friend. Its not that I didn't read, I just forgot to bring the instructions on who make the check out to with me to the bank. I can read very well! smile.gif Ive had my AOS paperwork filled out a long time ago. It was an honest mistake. I figured they will send the package back which is fine. My problem was I just didn't want them to keep my 1010.00. As long as I know I can correct the mistake I made is what is important to me.

Thank you!

There is no need to feel bad, like i said, as long as i can correct it everything is irie! smile.gif This is a learning process for all of us. I believe you were trying to prevent others from making the same mistake I did which is a good thing. Thanks.

I think I may be okay after all because I just pulled this up right from USCIS website and it says the following:

Checks must be made payable to Department of Homeland Security or U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. So I may be okay. It depends on whether they

want to accept it that way or not. Here is the link, its the last part of the instructions before the actual form:

I will keep eveyone posted.
