hi,

does anybody know how long will we have to wait before being able to get an interview window at the Naples consulate in Italy? I have seen people being able to get one in as little as three weeks, is that correct? Will two months be sufficient to get an interview, since we will have to move withing that timeframe?

Also, the I-864 is to be presented at the interview and not before, correct?

thanks!

Hi

I can't speak about how long it will be until you get an interview but in regards to the I-864, check with what the consulate specifies. The Australian Embassy asked for the I-864 to be sent in before my interview so they had time to review everything before I got there.

02/11/10 - Hubby (USC) has I-130 interview at Sydney Embassy

02/11/10 - Hubby and I have CRBA interview at Sydney Embassy

02/17/10 - Medical results received

02/22/10 - Police check received

02/22/10 - NOA2/Packet 3 received

02/23/10 - DS230 mailed off to Embassy

02/23/10 - CRBA received with US Passport for daughter

02/26/10 - DS2001 and supporting documents mailed to Sydney Embassy

03/02/10 - Packet 4 received. Application is complete!

The Naples consulate wants the I-864 at the interview, not before. You'll submit the DS-230 Part I and the checklist to tell them you're ready; everything else is presented at the interview. :)

Sorry I have no clue about waiting times in Naples right now. :(

One question: if I submit ds-230 etc. and take an appointment for the interview before having collected and prepared all the documents (but being sure I have everything ready by the interview date), is that acceptable or they want a proof I collected everything before I take an appointment? I was thinking that that could make me save some time while waiting for the I864 documents from out joint sponsor to come from the USA, since the waiting time seems to be one month here in Naples

Thanks!

hello!

Here in Buenos Aires, Argentina we sent the DS-230 ,I-864, proof of evidence and all the other information that they sent us at the end of February (embassy received it on February 26th) and we still haven´t even gotten any response yet. Waiting paciently! ;) I´m assuming we´re waiting for my background check (if I´m the petitioner)?

As long as you can reasonably expect to have all the docs by the interview date, you can submit the DS-230 and form indicating readiness. Technically you shouldn't, but in reality a lot of people do it. (Including me!) I guess it's really a matter of how much of a risk you deem it -- generally, the worst that will happen is you show up on the day without the required document and you will need to submit it ASAP after to get your visa (assuming everything else is in order).

that's great to know! So nobody will check the dates on my i864 for instance correct?

In this way I will save some time!! Also, where are you filing?

Noone will check the dates -- the most important numbers on there relate to income and/or assets. :)

I filed in London back in 2007, but it is still very much the case there that people send in the readiness checklist before having everything in hand. I have never heard of someone doing this and then getting called out on it for an I-864 post-dating the checklist. Imagine that you actually did have it in hand when you sent it, and then it was lost or damaged, you would need a new one -- and this would be dated after you sent in the checklist. Not an issue.
