Hi everybody,

As a quick introduction:

I am a 19 year old male US citizen. I am currently in the process of assembling a I-130 petition, for my Egyptian wife, in the hopes of having her qualify for and receiving a CR-1 visa.

I had purchased an ebook 'Spousal visa secrets' by Fred Wahl. Some of you may know of it.

In his ebook he recommends writing a 'nature of relationship' letter to the USCIS/NVC.

This letter is supposed to describe how we met, how we have maintained contact, future plans, when we got engaged, when we got married, etc.

Has anybody ever done one of these before?

Is it necessary?

When googling it I have only found the author of the ebook recommending it on his many, many sites (which are exact duplicates of eachother with different URLs).

I just wanted to ask of other's opinions as I am unsure if I fully trust this character. I emailed him about the NVC posting on Feb 1st regarding CR1/K3 visas. He never completely answered me on whether or not the proposed 'method' in his ebook was still applicable. I am guessing this would be because his ebook is essentially worthless now, as he proposes to switch from CR1 to K3 in the ebook, which as I have learned isn't the way to go anymore.

Thanks in advanced!

P.S: If I have more questions, would members prefer me to post in this thread alone, or to create another regarding the specific questions?

Hey...

our attorney wrote up so-called Affidavits for me and my husband.

Mine explains my life, how I met him, what my family thinks about our relationship etc.

His is pretty much the same.

We got it notarized and well..I guess we are hoping it might make things go faster because whatever question arises we hope we have it already answered.

I don't think I have ever read about anybody else doing that - which does not mean it is bad.

So, it is up to you. Those Affidavits are just another part of the "proof or relationship"-packet; and that may contain, whatever you feel is needed.

Good luck to you!

It's not manditory, but it is recommended. It is also called an evolution of relationship letter. I did one for our petition because it was a fairly short time between my divorce and getting remarried. Since this is probably your first marriage, it probably isnt necessary, but it only takes a couple of mins to type one up telling how you came to being married.

I did this as well and made a 4-page affidavit of our relationship together. I included the following:

1) My full name and citizenship status

2) Date and place of birth

3) Residence address and what the purpose of my filing was (spouse visa)

4) Then I listed all of the details regarding how we met and were engaged

I also mentioned all details surrounding the wedding (place and date, how many guests came, name of officiant)

I also mentioned the names of some witnesses who came to the wedding and where they came from

I also mentioned our honeymoon and other travels we took together

5) Finally, since I was married in India and customs are quite different over there I made sure to describe in

detail what each celebration/ceremony we had meant, and what significant acts were performed by my wife and I (this extra

description of the Indian acts of marriage is why the affidavit was so long)

Well I'm not sure how you go from a CR1 to a K3....the K3rs are becoming obsolete and if you have applications for CR1 and K3s, the K3 would be null and void once the CR1 hits NVC. If you aren't sure about the difference in the two visa, check out the guides on the websit here, Visajourney. There is also information on which visa is best for you

In terms of this guy's ebook, well that's entirely up to you. However, in my opinion, it isn't necessary because you have to prove ie show evidence of the bonafides of the relationship and marriage. Writing a letter detailing when you met etc and a chronology of events isn't that helpful overall. The best way to show evidenced of the relationship is by way of telephone logs/bilss, msn or skype chats, photographs of you to together over the course of the relationship, pictures of you and both of you with family members from both families, border passes from flights, paid flight tickets, of course your marriage certificate to prove you did get married.

You will need this at your embassy interview but you will and should also provide reasonable evidence at the initial filing stages. Some people went all out and loaded up at the I 130 petitions and others put less there and had sufficient evidence for the personal interview at their embassy. You want to avoid requests for evidence so ensure you have supporting evidence at the time of filing is good. At least that's my bias..

We sent in pictures of us together, with family, our engagement party, telephone bills, flight itineraries, boarding passes, joint bank account we opened and money going in and out of it, wedding invititations we sent out, wedding pictures etc etc. They want tangible evidence of a legitimate and ongoing relationship which you can readily provide if you are in one.

You can consider this book but I don't think you need it. Many here , in fact, haven't purchased it.

Get familiar with the guides, they are helpful.

Good luck and keep asking questions on the board.

Hey everybody! Thanks for all of your replies.

When some of you say you wrote an affidavit... is it an actual form you filled out? Or just a letter titled as an affidavit?

And also: I've known my wife for a number of years. I met her in 2007. However there was a brief period of time we did not speak, for various personal reasons. The biggest factor being that I was scared at the time (I was 16 or so) about trying to have a long distance relationship. In the end both of us in our young and immature ages deleted all of our emails from eachother. And we did not log our chats then. We did however find one email from me to her in october 2007.

Should I mention this in the nature of the relationship letter?

And should I include the one email from 2007 as evidence to the USCIS/NVC?

Could this cause trouble that we cannot find anymore from 2007? the next earliest we have is in june/july 2008.

Your tips/advice are very much appreciated!

Thanks alot for your reply! I read through both the ebook and websites like this quite alot. And I'm just finishing up the package. I have emails, chats, phone bills, flight itineraries, pictures, etc. And I appreciate you letting me know about it. But I was just looking to hear people's opinions about the letter of the relationship.

I felt pretty dumb after buying the ebook and finding this website and others like it. I never would have bought it! But alas, I'm here now. And just double checking on things... getting other's opinions. I don't wanna mess up!

There is no reason to feel dumb, everything will be fine in the end as long as your situation is valid and genuine.

This is just my opinion, but I feel the correspondence with your wife AFTER marriage is more important than anything before marriage. This correspondence is proof of bonafide marriage, that you guys are legitimate and your situation genuine. The fact that you talked in 2007 is nice, but that fact that you are talking now in 2010 AFTER your marriage is what really matters.

You can mention to them that you had a falling out with your wife in 2007 if you want to, but practically speaking the more important detail is that you mention all the major steps that you took with your wife to get to the point you are at now. You met, you decided to go on dates, you received approval from parents (if applicable), you continued to date and get more serious, you got engaged, you had a party - and recently you got married.

That is the story I think they would like to know - and you can add other things if you want. But I think it would be best to add those details that help your case the most.

I didn't include any evolution of relationship with our I-130 application, but I did include several affidavits from friends, family, and employer. I save all the evidence of relationship for my husband's interview. We didn't have any problems with getting everything approved!

Good luck!

Sorry for all the typing errors in my reply. I was writing quickly.

Visajourney was actually the biggest reason why I chose to handle the immigration case myself instead of hiring a lawyer. I had consulted by email with one or two and had a telephone consultation with another. I was also resarching sites to get help and when I stumbled on VJ I found it to be the most helpful. It's a great resource and while there isn't anyone here giving nor should be giving legal advise, it's people with experience in the process and people being very helpful.

We're all trying to get to the same place: united with our loved ones.

Good luck and fire away with any questions about anything.

Krazykoudides,

I sense the apprehension in your writing, and it is clear that you want to do the right thing to get your spouse home, and as soon as possible. Yes, we collected all of our evidence (photos, boarding passes, emails, phone cards, etc.), but we are saving most of it for the interview at the Consulate, i.e. we did not send copies with the I-130 Petition. I did submit a notarized spousal affidavit and 3rd party affidavits with the petition, and copies of my passport to show multiple visits prior to our marriage. Our I-130 Petition was approved by USCIS in 72 days. The spousal affidavit was simply statements that I wrote (not a form), and it was only one page. Go to http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/Affidavit for examples. by the way, don't worry about not having the older e-mails from years ago when you first met. It's not big deal. I wish you the best of luck!

Here's to families being together sooner,

Thank you all for your responses! I am amazed at how quickly you respond! I greatly appreciate all of your responses!

After your responses , the wife and I decided not to include the sole email from 2007. We don't want anybody being suspicious about anything! We've read alot of horror stories and we do notttt want anything of the sort happening to us.

I've never known of the affidavits of a bonafide relationship, until now. I definitely want to prepare one myself. Are family members accepted third parties? Like my Mom or sister?

Also, do I have to get the affidavits notarized? If so , it is not a big deal as my bank does have a notary. However, I wanted to get my sister in law, mother in law, and father in law to prepare one as well. However, them being in Egypt makes the notarization a little confusing. Would their affidavits also need to be notarized? Could I get them notarized here in the states?

I'd really love to know this before my wife sends me her g-325a's and such, by way of fed ex. It might push the date I file back... but damn. I want to do this right. Egypt is cool and all... but I sure as hell don't wanna be stuck there all my life!

And speaking of Egypt, And_Sam, if I may ask, when was your I-864 required? Was it only required at the interview or did you file it with the NVC? I noticed your husband is from Egypt. :) Assalamu alaikom :) .. and I hope he gets his military release paper soon! It's a shame it's that way over there. All my wife's uncles bribed their way out of military service though. You can buy anybody in Egypt!

ya - I've done one, for initial petition submittal, and I'll do an updated one, for her to hand in on interview day.

It's also called an 'Evolution of Relationship' letter - and is almost required for any China-bound I-130 spousal petition.

It covers major events and timeticks, plus a list of red-flags (if any).

an EOR letter is USEFUL for :

1--countries with high fraud ratios

2--petitioners with red flags

Good Luck !

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

In addition to my personal affidavit that I wrote, I asked my mother and my mother-in-law to also write affidavits. Their affidavits are similar to mine, but also much shorter. They wrote:

1) Their full name, date of birth, place of birth and place of residence

2) Nature of their relationship to me

3) Nature of their relationship to her (my wife)

4) The fact that they attended and were witnesses at my engagement

5) The fact that they attended and were witnesses at my wedding (they actually wrote what they witnessed us perform according to Indian tradition)

6) Reconfirmation of the number of people who attended the engagement and wedding and the name of the officiant. Basically reconfirming details in my original affidavit

I suppose it does not have to be, but I had all 3 letters notarized. My mom is American and so am I, so our notarizations are not a problem. My mother-in-law is Indian, so we went somewhere to get her letter attested by an Indian notary.
