My fiance had his medical exam today in London. He had a bad bout of depression in 2004 and was treated for it. He's fine now, but still on medication to help him sleep. He took along a letter from his doctor but they asked him to contact his previous doctor for further information (this doctor no longer works there so they asked for his current one to write another letter about his past medical history).I've been reading on VJ about this, but haven't gotten a real specific answer. It sounds like all they're looking for is for his previous doctor to tell them that he was treated for it and is okay now. Correct? Will this cause a delay or problem at the interview? It seems everything else went smooth.

Thank you

I did a search and found this link that seems to relate:

It looks like it could be a problem if he doesn't get the 'all clear' from a doctor. Otherwise you're fine.

Please you should not make statements like if he is all clear you will be fine. You have noway of knowing what the outcome might be and could mislead people.

To the OP. They have been quite a few people going through the London Embassy over the years who have had similar problems. Most got resolved, some didn't. One thing they seem to look at is the cost of any ongoing treatment in the US and your ability to fund it. You say he needs medication to help him sleep, you might find it helpful if your doctor will stress it is for sleep purposes and not to treat his depression. They have in the past seemed concerned about the possible outcome of people coming off their meds because they cannot afford them and the likely consequences.

Not trying to alarm you just to make sure you understand what they are looking for so you can cover your bases. In the past the Embassy doctor has not approved the applicant until they have got the letter from their own doctor(s) that have been requested. This will either delay your interview or you will not be approved until the medical is sign off on.

What to expect at the POE - WIKI entry
