Well, sometimes they ask questions to throw you off/ unsettle you. Last time I drove across I got the standard "any dead body's, bazooka's, or kilo's of pot that I should know about? I just laughed it off and went on my merry way.

I work in a jewellery store though, and one of our regular customers comes in and asks me if Ive been "put in the mail yet?" as in mail-order-bride. It gets under my skin, but somethings you just have to brush off and forget about. The whole "sticks and stones" deal.

Invictus..

Out of the night that covers me,

Black as the Pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods may be

For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud.

Under the bludgeonings of chance

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the Horror of the shade,

And yet the menace of the years

Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll.

I am the master of my fate:

I am the captain of my soul.

There's ignorant/ well-meaning but just missing the mark friends, acquaintances or colleagues.. and then there's professionals who are sharing personal judgment about a process they are officially involved in. I hope David doesn't get the same officer when he arrives on his K-1!

First time Ry flew back from London, the IO in Atlanta asked him where he'd been. He told him and the IO commented that LDRs aren't cheap, how'd he afford the fare? He replied that I had (since he was covering his 3 weeks of no income and ongoing bills) and the IO went, "Wow. Where'd you score her? I want a foreign chick who pays for me to travel the world. If you ever get bored of her, pass her on will ya?" Friendly chitchat, or really rude? Ry said it made him feel like some kind of kept man or male escort

This happened to me at Newark. It's not something you want after leaving you're love behind and after the long flight. He asked me how long I spent over in England and I said 4 months. And He said What?! How did you afford that? You most have worked while your over there? You know your not allowed to work while you're there? By the time he asked me all the questions, I just stared at him as to say just stamp my passport and move on.

As for the K-1, most the people at the airports I've talked to, didn't even know what a K-1 was. But many have the opinion that LDRs don't work out and that everyone's just getting used for a green card.

What's nuts about this is we're talking about USCs being insulted and grilled when returning to the US!! None of your darned business should be the answer. What are they going to do? Refuse entry? lol...

UGH, so rude. I would complain in a heart beat. Just a general complaint (if you cant remember the individual involved) will hopefully be enough for someone higher up to put a memo out, telling workers to keep their opinions to themselves and leave out the personal opinion bullsh*t.

HOWEVER, on the flip side I had the loveliest of POE workers when I left David for the second time. I was a total mess and he asked me what was wrong and I told him. He was SOOO nice, gave me some tissues, wished me a safe journey home and that he looked forward to seeing me smiling next time with the K1 visa in my hand.

Been there, done that.

Each time I return home from seeing Vanessa in Costa Rica I get treated to "what was the purpose of your trip?" at the CBP counter. When I explain that I was visiting my fiancee I typically get to spend a couple of additional minutes with the "friendly" CBP officers in the secondary area - where they search my luggage (maybe looking for Vanessa in my bags?)...

When I ask them what they're searching for in my luggage I typically get the standard "just random" answer...

Gotta love CBP...

All I can say is that I am happy we at least have the VJ community to share those moments and feelings. Report that inappropriate officer if you can, please. He should not be working in a place where he'll constantly see immigrants if he holds such ill feelings towards them.

I am amazed at some of the things being said to people by person in an offical capacity. Being a witty yorkshire man i would most certainly have a witty comment for anyone who spoke to me in such a way..

And lets think about it, OF COURSE we as K1 applicants want a green card, why would we be going through all this in the first place? What they seem to misunderstand is that the purpose of getting the green card is to so we can be with our loved ones.

Ingnorance is not a good excuse for rudeness, if i encounter any of this i will most certainly make the person feel like they are 3cm tall.

Sometimes, other people just can't handle the idea of people being in love over a long distance. It's strange and difficult for them to accept, and it probably scares them... hence the odd comment.

I'd say he's a jerk, but then I think he's probably just a dimwit who believes all the ####### he's fed.

I guess it depends on who sees you at the POE.

The CBP guy that talked to Umit explained to her what she needs to do next, reminded her that she had 90 days to get married and file for AOS, and basically left her with a good feeling for CBP.

A couple of buddies that work at CBP/USCIS definitely do not have this attitude of the OP's CBP Officer - they have welcomed Umit with open arms.

(all though, the USCIS buddy seems to be able to spot "green card only applicants" on a pretty regular basis - I would not recommend listening to some of his horror stories if your about to bring someone over if your paranoid smile.gif )

But it goes to show, there are some bad apples in the bunch, due to the number of people coming and working - just shrug it off and move on is the best advice!

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS

For awhile the questions I was asked when entering England got more and more personal. This took the cake.

Officer: "Why are you entering the United Kingdom?"

Me: "To visit my boyfriend."

Officer: "Is he British?"

Me: "Yes."

Officer: (looks at my passport) "You've visited him in England a lot."

Me: "Yes, we've been dating since 2005."

Officer: "Are you going to get pregnant and then just not leave England this time?"

Me: ...

My fiance and I are just about at the end of our process, just waiting for the embassy to send him his visa...

Anyway, I visited him last week in the UK and went through U.S. customs when I came back. Usually it's a "Hi, how was your trip?" a stamp, and I'm off to pick up my luggage.

"What was the purpose of your trip?"

"To visit my fiance"

"Why is he over there?"

"He is a British citizen; he was recently approved for a K1 fiance visa, so he'll be coming over in June."

"Well you know what they say about those K1 visas right?

"?"

"As soon as they get here they turn tail and just want a green card." :wow:

And he looks at me and I'm thinking, um...what do you want me to say to that?! How unprofessional is that?! I wanted to report him but...David doesn't quite his visa yet

It seems to happen more often than not. My fiance went to her interview in Hong Kong and she was treated so badly by a Chinese interviewer it almost but her to tears. I'm afraid to complain to the U.S Embassy there because it may jepordize her chances of comming here.

I also had to deal with rude border patrol personnel.

I was turned away at the border because of insufficient ties to Canada and of course I got upset. The customs agent looked at me and said and I quote "Oh boo F'ING whoo" I was so shocked at this I could not believe it.

So I have her name and badge number and I will be reporting her

Really? Where do they find these clods to staff these positions? Everyone has 'bad days on the job' but I would never think to say something so unprofessional and insensitive. I'm glad you're following through on this one. She gives her ilk a bad name.
