My fiance and I are just about at the end of our process, just waiting for the embassy to send him his visa...

Anyway, I visited him last week in the UK and went through U.S. customs when I came back. Usually it's a "Hi, how was your trip?" a stamp, and I'm off to pick up my luggage.

"What was the purpose of your trip?"

"To visit my fiance"

"Why is he over there?"

"He is a British citizen; he was recently approved for a K1 fiance visa, so he'll be coming over in June."

"Well you know what they say about those K1 visas right?

"?"

"As soon as they get here they turn tail and just want a green card." :wow:

And he looks at me and I'm thinking, um...what do you want me to say to that?! How unprofessional is that?! I wanted to report him but...David doesn't quite his visa yet

You can certainly complain -

IMO - all K-1 visa holders want a green card. stfu.

cough cough .. errrr.

All K-1 visa holders are allowed to apply for a green card.

Seriously - I'm happy to complain on yer behalf - I'll need the name, badge # if known, and the POE city, and date/time it occured.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Who is the "They" that says THAT???? Definitely complain about that. No need to take that #######. I want you to imagine what would happen to this jerk if he substituted the words...Muslims, Africans, Orientals, Albanians, Bosnians, Mexicans, etc. for the word "K-1" It is not accepatable and you should not accept it.

My sister got the same treatment at the IRS office in jersey city, she was asking tax questions pertaining to her husband (waits for a cr-1) and the employee went as far as to ask her "How are you gonna have kids then through mail?"

She came home fuming I think I saw smoke coming out her ears. Why do some people feel entitled to make these rude comments? Gosh, even if I wasn't on this visa journey I know better than to make such comments about long distance relationships. They are rude, uncalled for, tactless and out of place especially if you don't know the couple.

One time going down to visit my then boyfriend the customs officer gave me a minute long lecture about how these long distance romances often "turn bad" and one person gets a wandering eye, gets interested in others...why not just save myself all the grief and be done either get married or be done with it!! :o I was just in shock and just starred at her  ...she stamped my passport as she was giving me this speech so I was like uh ok, thanks and was on my way!!

Okay, I love you Gary and all the witty posts you have put on VJ since I joined...but I want to point out that Oriental as used to describe individuals is as outdated as "negro" or "colored." In appropriate context it is used to describe objects and locations, and not as a substitute for "Asians." However, you did qualify its use in the OP's frame of reference as 'not acceptable.'

I wish I had been smart enough to get his name/badge number. Maybe I can just make an informal complaint to the border folks at the airport (it was Dulles in the D.C. area).

To the person who asked about free speech, well, sure, he's entitled to his opinion. But it's off the job, you know? I wouldn't talk to a parent of one of my patients and tell them that they're horrible parents, even if I did feel that way.

It feels like some of these officers think that U.S. citizenship is like being God and everyoen else is a cockroach trying to magically transform. David thinks that UK citizenship is better than US citizenship...

I also had to deal with rude border patrol personnel.

I was turned away at the border because of insufficient ties to Canada and of course I got upset. The customs agent looked at me and said and I quote "Oh boo F'ING whoo" I was so shocked at this I could not believe it.

So I have her name and badge number and I will be reporting her

I went through the same type of questioning last September at Newark Airport in New Jersey. I had just got off a flight from Bogota .. Here is the ICE officer [immigration and Customs Enforcement] waiting for me at the booth. Pulls me aside and into a room where I am asked what is the purpose of my trip? I show him the I129-F papers filled out and all my evidence I need to file the petition and then he says .. So how much Cocaine did you bring back with you ?? And how much cash do you have left ??
