Health care reform, anyone?

I may be totally off base here, but I always thought that drugs are cheaper in the UK because of the NHS' buying power. IE Since they purchase the majority of all drugs they have a lot more bargaining power to get the best price.

Again I may be way off.....

I'm sorry, I'm really not laughing at you. Because you are right the NHS can purchase drugs in vast lots and negotiate a very good deal.

But they don't purchase the majority of all drugs. At least not any drug also marketed in the US. There's more people over here, after all.

Our journey together on this earth has come to an end.

I will see you one day again, my love.

I didn't mean globally, I meant specifically on the UK market.

Exactly, the NHS is a much bigger purchasor than any US entity.

Possibly.

But there are an awfully lot of Wal-Marts out there. :P

it seems clear that this whole bill was shoved together quickly without much thought.

You read it then?

So yeah, hospitals here are amazing. It was like staying at the Hilton when we stayed in our suite for a couple of days, after having our baby last year. Compare and contrast my sister who was in and out of hospital in 4 hours after her baby was born in the UK.

Or you could do like we did and have your baby at home ... safer, cheaper and nicer!!!

My philosophy is this: if I dial 9-1-1, whether I need the police, the fire department, or an ambulance, I shouldn't be worried about having to file bankcruptcy. Imagine you have a fire, call 9-1-1, and they ask you what fire insurance plan you have? Or you have a burglar in your house, call 9-1-1, and the police dispatcher asks you about your police protection plan?

Dude - you need to talk to someone at AIG, you're gonna be a rich man with this acute thinking.

HAHA no freaking way I'd ever have a baby at home...I take care of sick infants and have seen my fair share of home births gone wrong...even one baby who didn't make it. And of course we had this one admission, the midwife from the birth came in and told the Dad to refuse antibiotics! We were like, "Um...so why did you bring him here??" :bonk:

I know my reasoning is not for everybody...but I deal with the worst of the worst so I could never have something so uncontrolled as a home delivery.

I'm not even sure how I feel about having a baby in the UK...I'd want to check out the high-risk delivery centers and where the sick ones go to and see their units and ask about all their capabilities. Yes, it's a bit neurotic, but again, I've met too many mom's who had a perfectly normal pregnancy and then have everything go down during the delivery.

In fairness, the birth was entirely "free" as my insurance covered it, so I'm not sure how much cheaper I could have made it.

Yes - from beginning to end, just like you I'm sure.

So there are 2 people that have read it.

2 more than I expected.
