Hi,

We went to a local civil surgeon to have the I-693 prepared, while there they told us that my wife needed a TB skin test (PPD) as part of the vaccination section? Is this correct? We go back to have her skin test checked tomorrow, but I'm worried there may be a reaction there. She may test positive for Latent TB because her chest x-ray was clear at St. Lukes. If the test is positive for TB, what will happen next? Can we continue with the AOS process. I was hoping to mail the AOS paper work in a couple of weeks. Her 90 days are up at the end of April.

Thanks for any help, I'm really worried about this.

We just got the approval letter for the Green Card yesterday, and Nik has done NO TB skin test either in the US or as part of the pannel physician medical overseas.

It is NOT required to adjust status from a K-1 visa. I think your next move should be to consider finding another CS who will just deal with the vaccinations.

Our oversea medical exam did include a TB test.

We re-did the medical here in the US. If it show positive, they will do an xray. My wife showed a false positive, but the CS look at the xray and gave us a clean bill of health.

Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the world's deadliest diseases:

  • One third of the world's population are infected with TB.
  • Each year, over 9 million people around the world become sick with TB.
  • Each year, there are almost 2 million TB-related deaths worldwide.
  • TB is a leading killer of people who are HIV infected.

In total, 12,904 TB cases (a rate of 4.2 cases per 100,000 persons) were reported in the United States in 2008. Both the number of TB cases reported and the case rate decreased; this represents a 2.9% and 3.8% decline, respectively, compared to 2007.

There are two tests that can be used to help detect TB infection: a skin test or a special TB blood test. The Mantoux tuberculin skin test is performed by injecting a small amount of fluid (called tuberculin) into the skin in the lower part of the arm. A person given the tuberculin skin test must return within 48 to 72 hours to have a trained health care worker look for a reaction on the arm. The special TB blood test measures how the patient's immune system reacts to the germs that cause TB

What is Bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG)?

BCG is a vaccine for TB disease. BCG is used in many countries, but it is not generally recommended in the United States. BCG vaccination does not completely prevent people from getting TB. It may also cause a false positive tuberculin skin test. However, persons who have been vaccinated with BCG can be given a tuberculin skin test or special TB blood test.

Why is LatSputum phlegm coughed up from deep inside the lungs. Sputum is examined for TB bacteria using a smear; part of the sputum can also be used to do a culture.

TB skin test a test that is often used to detect latent TB infection. A liquid called tuberculin is injected under the skin on the lower part of your arm. If you have a positive reaction to this test, you probably have latent TB infection. This is the Common Method.

TB Blood Test a new test that uses a blood sample to find out if you are infected with TB bacteria. The test measures the response to TB proteins when they are mixed with a small amount of blood. Examples of these special TB blood tests include QuantiFERON®-TB Gold (QFT-G) and T-Spot®.TB test. This is more accurate then the skin test with someone that had BCG Vac.

Tuberculin or PPD a liquid that is injected under the skin on the lower part of your arm during a TB skin test. If you have TB infection, you will probably have a positive reaction to the tuberculin.

ent TB Infection Treated?

If you have latent TB infection but not TB disease, your doctor may want you to take a drug to kill the TB germs and prevent you from developing TB disease. The decision about taking treatment for latent infection will be based on your chances of developing TB disease. Some people are more likely than others to develop TB disease once they have TB infection. This includes people with HIV infection, people who were recently exposed to someone with TB disease, and people with certain medical conditions.

How is TB Disease Treated?

TB disease can be treated by taking several drugs for 6 to 12 months. It is very important that people who have TB disease finish the medicine, and take the drugs exactly as prescribed. If they stop taking the drugs too soon, they can become sick again; if they do not take the drugs correctly, the germs that are still alive may become resistant to those drugs. TB that is resistant to drugs is harder and more expensive to treat.

As part of the Medical for the PI, skin test is required, if bad x-ray. and most often required from CS for individuals from high risk country's.

I surmise that's only for immigrant visa applicants in the Philippines. I had my K1 and wasn't asked to undergo TST in SLMCEC. The CS here completed my I-693 without any test or vaccination. He said that HPV was no longer required and Tdap has the interval of 5-10 years. I took Tdap, MMR, and HPV in SLMCEC.

I has a skin Tb test for a job and I tested positive. They thought I had TB and I told them it cant be because I just underwent a really strict medical in the Phils before I came here and my Xray was okey. So they asked to see the Xray and concluded that I had latent TB. meaning I have been exposed to it since I lived in the Phils. He said most filipinos who undergo skin test usually tests positive because TB is common in the Phils. So she might test positive and even if she does, just show her the xray from St Lukes (the one on the CD) and theyll sign a form saying she is okey
