Hey everyone,

My wife (USC) and I (Irish Citizen) met in college in Ireland 3 years ago. Over the next two year I went back and forth to the US visiting her, until she graduated and moved to live with me in Ireland last April. We got married in on a visit to the US in October 09 but continued living in Ireland where we currently are now. Unfortunately the local authorities are refusing to recognize my wife's US college degree so her employment options are non-existent over here so we're hoping to move back. So far everything has run smoothly, we've received packet 3 from the Embassy in Dublin where we're filing the application. Our one stumbling block was her income because she has no US income, but her parents are co-sponsoring the application and their annual income is more than $100,000 over the federal guideline for a household of 4 (My wife, her parents and myself).

I know that there's no way of being sure what USCIS will decide on any application, but a lot of the posters in this forum seem to be very knowledgeable when it comes to visas. Is this a likely case to be approved?

Hi, I'm kind of in the same situation. My husband is in Ireland, and I lost my job a few weeks ago. So I decided to go be with him in Ireland during the visa process. I got a Co-sponsor, who is a family friend and meets all the requirements. As long as one of her parents meets the requirements (125% over poverty line for household size, Tax returns for 3 years, w2s for three years... I'm sure you know) Then you should be fine, at least that is what everyone keeps telling me. Make sure your wife still fills in the I-864 even though she has no current income, and if she didn't pay any taxes while in school or currently, she needs to write a letter explaining why. This is the website that has the information for her if she didn't pay taxes so she can quote it http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p501.pdf As long as you have all the documentation then you should be grand.

I have a question for you, I'm going to Ireland and have a degree in Journalism. Why did your wife have problems using her degree in Ireland? I would love to get freelance work while I'm there, so if I'm going to have issues working i'd love to know now. Did you guys have any other problems with immigration in Ireland or was that your biggest issue? Will I have problems at the airport in Dublin? I'm going April 4th and I'm really nervous. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Oh Also, how did you get your NOA2 so quickly?

You'll be fine, I have no formal journalism qualifications and i even get freelance work here. My wife is a qualified english teacher but according to the irish teachers council, they don't teach english as well in the US. Bit of a joke but we've gotten over it and moved on.

For over a year I did sports features for the "Advertiser" chain of papers. They have publications in Kilkenny, Galway and Athlone.
