InfoPass Appointments

Hi everyone,

Last wk Friday, March 19th, I had an appointment with my local USCIS office in Manhattan.

I was scheduled for 7:30am, but I was there until 8:30am.

My petition was filed on December 7th, 2009 and has been touched 3 times. Since the USCIS phone representatives could not tell me anything more then "Your Petition is currently being processed" I decided to make this infopass appointment in the hopes of finding out more information. However, it does nothing!

I took a taxi downtown in the am, to the USCIS building. I was told to the go the other side of the building where an officer was standing by the entrance, requesting for the INFOPASS form that I had received online when making the appointment along with a picture I.D to match the appointment notice.

He asked me if I was waiting for anyone to join me, and I told him that my husband is not here but that I wish he was here soon.

He told me to wait inside on the line that was infront of the security check. It looks like the security check point at an airline.

So I waited, and I had to take off my jacket, shoes and any other items that might go off in the detector. After that, I walked over to another room that looked like a bank where people waited inline to speak with a "teller". I got to the front of the line, and was asked to go to the far right "Teller" where a gentleman asked me what I was there for. I showed him my INFOPASS form along with my I.D. He asked me about my petition and I told him "It was filed Dec. 7th, touched on 12/28, 3/8 and 3/9 and I want to know what's going on with it" and he said, "Well, you can tell that you love your husband!" and I smiled, but I was nervous. He gave me a pass that said "B5" and told me to go upstairs to the 3rd floor and an officer would be waiting there and I would need to show the officer the "5B" pass. I asked a woman outside how to get to the 3rd floor since the elevators brought you to 6 and above.

She was rude and pointed to the escalators that were behind an alcove area.

I took the escalators to the 3rd floor and sure enough there was an officer waiting by the entrance to another large waiting room, where he asked me to show him my infopass and the 5B pass and then show him my cell phone that it was turned off.

I walked into the large waiting room, where a bunch of people were sitting waiting for their number to be called.

It was the same as a bank with teller windows, but this time you were seated waiting and the teller windows had seats infront of each one.

There was no pattern to the numbers being called; "X1" V2" B1" until finally my B5 was called and I had to walk to the other side of the room, to teller #10.

He asked me what I was there for, and we began speaking. He looked up my case, and told me the same thing I already knew, but he did tell me that an officer was assigned to my case, but he couldnt tell me who, and he did say that the officer consolidated both my I-130 and I-129F into one file. However, the I-130 is being looked at.

He told me that an officer can be assigned several cases at one time, and they will review part 1 of all applications at the same time, then go back to the first application and review part 2 of all of them etc.. until they are all completed at the same time. They don't just review one case at a time and keep reviewing it until it is done.

The officer I was speaking with happened to be a specialist in Stokes INterviews. So he was asking me questions about my petition, and I could tell he was asking me about my husband, how we met, and I was nervous but told him that I just couldnt wait to be with him again.

Then Behind me, a couple came in frantic asking where to go to be sworn in because no one would tell them where to go. Then I saw a group of people being sworn in.

They were becoming citizens after being here for a certain number of years. My eyes began to tear up, and I asked the officer, will that be my husband when he is here with me after 3 years?

and He said, yes. And I almost started to cry.

He was very nice and gave me 30 min. of his time, but he did tell me that any other officer would have told me to leave after a few questions, but he was nice enough to try to comfort me in my quest to find out more information, although there was nothing else he could tell me.

I hope this helps some of you out there, but until then , I am waiting for this portion of the petition to be approved so that we can move on and get the interview already!!!

Goodluck to everyone -
