Do I need to Be here during visa process?

So, I lost my job a few weeks ago and had been planing on visiting my husband for a couple weeks. Since my circumstances have changed, as I don't have a job and will no longer have health insurance as of April, both my husband and I think that the best situation would be for me to be with him in Ireland during the process. I have found a co-sponsor who more than qualifies and also have all my papers in order (everything for the rest of the process). My questions are, can I live in Ireland with him during the visa process, or is it necessary to be in the US for a majority of it even with a co-sponsor?

Also, for anyone who has had a USC partner come stay with them in Ireland for an extended period of time, was it hard going through immigration at Dublin? (I'm really nervous) Will I need anything besides our marriage certificate, passport and other relationship qualifying documents? WIll there be a problem with getting an Irish residency stamp in my passport for his CR1? Because of the Irish "right of residence" I'm assuming it wont be a problem, is this wishful thinking?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

As you have the financial support issue sorted, the only thing to think about is someone to check your mail regularly and forward you any documents, RFEs etc they may send to your US address.

In terms of staying in Ireland, when my husband came over, all we needed was our marriage cert and his passport. We went to the Alien's Office with that- no appointment needed- and walked out 30 mins later with a ten year "green card" for him. Of course, that was almost 5 years ago, things may have changed.

Do you think I should tell immigration officers at the airport that I'm there to be with my husband, or say I'm just visiting and then go to the immigration office and deal with it?

thanks!

Our case was slightly different- we weren't married when he came to Ireland- but my husband told the truth; he said at immigration that he was coming to get married to an Irish woman. All the officer said is that he obviously had good taste :)

Thank you! that makes me feel a lot better, as I have been really worried about it and some people have told me to say I'm there for a short visit, and others have told me to tell the truth, which I feel is the best thing to do!
