Almost immediately after down-shutting the computer last night, the following occurred to me about this passage from Just Bob:

"He raises the Mexican flag in his yard. His car is plastered with Mexican flags and stickers of Brahma bulls. He listens to Mexican music and Mexican radio stations all day long. Loud! He celebrates Mexican holidays. Cinco de Mayo is more important to him than Independence Day. He marries a Mexican (American) woman. He raises his children as Mexican (Americans). He speaks Spanish with them. In one sentence: he doesn't put much effort into blending in to this society."

1. Maybe the guy is simply a jerk.

2. Maybe he's much like a rabid fan of a National Football League team ("in your face!").

3. Maybe he plans to return to Mexico soon enough so that he doesn't have to assimilate.

Can anyone think of more reasons?

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I read very carefully, and I stand by my considered opinion of your post. Answer, please: Does EVERY community have English-as-a-second-language courses for free? Yes or no. Answer, please: On what basis do you found your sweeping assumption of "everybody can learn English if they want to"? Before you answer, please read my posts (between yours and this one) and address each of the obstacles to prove that they're NOT obstacles. Finally, in this post, what does "I sad Mexicans" mean?

In New Jersey every library has ESL for free. Please don't misunderstood me, the only problem I have with Spanish speaking people is that they don't want to learn English even if they live in USA. I love latin music and I even attended some classes: salsa, meregue and bachata and I love it.

Si, man; a lot of immigrants here are going to take those other languages as a second language. Try being even more irrelevant: "If a cat has kittens in the oven, that makes them biscuits!"

And again, how sweeping (if not arrogant) it is to say "English is not a hard language to learn at all." See my previous messages. If you instead meant to say "I did not find it hard to learn English at all," then that's different, but since I'm reading carefully and interpreting literally, I conclude that you meant what you said. Where is your evidence for what you said, please, or are you merely stereotyping, or making a grand assumption on the basis of your superior knowledge?

I have spoken with many Spanish people(from Spain) in English, if they can learn the language why other's can't?

Well, you basically stated that being illegally present amounted to "a civil violation, something on the order of speeding or failing to stop at a stop sign." I just pointed out it is not the minor violation you described when any illegal alien can be arrested, detained, and deported for being illegally present. It happens all the time far, far away from the border.

If you read my post I stated that mandatory employment verification and firing of illegal workers would take care of the problem without mass deportations. Migration works both ways. Can't work here...they will go home.

And where did I state that I wanted to turn private citizens into immigration informers?

You are very naive and/or ignorant if you believe that illegal aliens do not hold jobs that unemployed Americans can do, will do, and want to do. Not all illegal aliens are picking lettuce for sub-minimum wages.

Why do you defend illegal aliens and cheerlead for them? I've never understood why so many people here on VJ root for illegal aliens.

I don't root or cheerlead for illegal immigrants. But if you make employers responsible for rooting them out, which is indeed your suggestion [see your in bold reiteration of said suggestion] you are making private citizens responsible for immigration enforcement.

You over state the case if you think that most unemployed Americans are unemployed as the result of illegals sucking up good jobs. Where do you get this idea? From your ill conceived prejudice towards illegals, the stereotypes you hold so dear to your arguments.

Being here illegally is technically and in fact a CIVIL violation of our laws. The act of illegally crossing our borders is a CRIMINAL act. Those are the facts. That is not cheerleading, it is a statement regarding facts.

Illegal immigrants did not deter you from using the legal process of immigration, and I doubt you yourself are unemployed. So from my perspective, why the blind condemnation?

So I am left wondering where all the chest-beating-mouth-breathing-illegal-screaming peeps are here who talk up a good game, yet when are presented with someone who has been living here illegally for more than a decade - not a peep is made. Me thinks there is just a lot of empty hateful rhetoric spewing pu$$ies round these parts.

nope. we want obama's aunt to go back to kenya, too. then she can pay back all of the tax dollars she has benefitted by receiving in terms of free housing, food stamps, medical assistance, legal assistance, police and fire protection, etc.

I am talking about the hypocrites who spit nails at illegals in general yet when given the opportunity in this thread to talk to one who was illegal for over a decade - no one bites. So im my opinion the hate filled diatribes we often see here are just empty rants. You know - internet grandstanding.
