Can anyone recommend any good travel agents or websites where I can find some reasonable price tickets from ATL to LHR.

All the websites that I know have went crazy and the fares they are showing exceed $1000!!! for a roundtrip

It used to be freaking $550! at the most during peak season!!!

We always just used the basics - Expedia, Orbitz, etc.

Depends on what you mean by 'peak times'. I always found rates around what you quoted for summertime travel (basically anything after Memorial Day and before Labor Day) and also around the holidays.

Peak time is usually May (from the second week) - August (uptill the first week)

That is surprising. I used to always buy from expedia and they gave prices like $550-$650 now its more like >$1000

I must have really missed out on some deals back in the day then. We always avoided travel during the summer because we thought it was stupid to pay nearly $1000 when we could wait another month or two and save ourselves nearly half that. We only had one summer trip and that was because I had some vouchers from the airline that offset the high cost.

Is there a reason you're stuck to LHR?

Delta flies to Gatwick, and Nik likes that one. It was usually the cheapest for our Phoenix-London jumps to go through Atlanta on Delta.

A lot of airlines are "on to" the discount sites and will offer slightly better fares from their direct websites.

K-1:

January 22, 2010: Bogus RFE corrected through congressional inquiry "EAD waiting on biometrics only" Read about it here.

March 15, 2010: AOS interview - RFE for I-693 vaccination supplement - CS signed part 6!

basically my fiance is in Luton. I flew into gatwick once and it was a helluva road trip >4 hrs from LGW to Luton.

But again, if I get a good discount, I dont mind the traffic

random thought : "mind the gap" lol tht is just funny if you hear it the first time!

We had the same problem. After the overnight flight to LHR, we had to wait for a coach and then have a 3.5 hour ride to Bath. The nearest airport is minutes away from Bath but for some reason, they insist on having the flight go to Amsterdam first.

The rates change all the time so keep plugging away at places like expedia, etc. Booking over a month out and choosing non-peak travel days (Tuesday-Thursday) is a good rule of thumb but not always the best way. Play with the dates and see what you come up with. I've dropped over $400.00 off a fare once by changing the return by one day. I've played with mock bookings for days/weeks till I hit a fare I could afford.

I was traveling to and from Portsmouth and typically flew in via Gatwick, then took the 1.5 hour train ride right from the airport rather than wait 7 hours for a puddle-jumper to Southampton. One month open return to Portsmouth Harbour cost me about £20. Luton looks to be about the same distance.

Thanks for the good advice! I appreciate it!

Now I know I got extremely lucky with this but we just got a ticket from Manchester to Cincinnati for $520.00 For April 14th. The thing is I read somewhere that checking just after midnight on the airlines direct sights, can often reap rewards. They did for us even if it was at 2 am.

You can stand me at the gates of hell, but I wont back down.

Oh I did, but I never needed a hotel - just the flight - so I didn't find anything spectacular. It helped that hubby lived about 10 mins from Heathrow so I never needed a hotel or a car.
