After a very stressful Monday and Tuesday I finally had my passport in my hand this morning.

I have had a vacation booked for the last 6 months and was supposed to head to Miami this morning. The CO advised that my passport should be sent out last Wednesday or Thursday but inreality it was only put in the mail yesterday.

The Canadapost site aslo did not have the most up to date information as it was dropped in the mail at 9:40am but did not show up on the site until 6pm. I had called them in the AM and finally got word it was in the mail.

I knew if I got my passport by noon I could change my flight and still get to Miami today.

Luckily my neighbour is a postman so I gave him a call to see if there was anything he could do for me. He took the tracking number and said if it made it to Kitchener by this morning he could pull it and I could pick it up this morning.

I was in luck and he called at 7:30 to tell me that he had it and we could come and get it.

A quick call to Air Canada and $175 in change fees and I was set to go to the airport.

I decided to give myself lots of time so I got to the airport 4 hours before my flight.

I have never been so excited to get to the customs counter. He marked my entry slip with an I and sent me to secondary.

The guy in secondary seem to know what he was doing. He took all my paperwork and asked me to sit down. He opened the envelope and then called me back to the counter. He took a print of my right index finger and had me sign my name. He then did a quick search of my belongings and went over the rules. He reminded me I would need to remove the conditions in 2 years and told me the form. He advised that the stamp in my passport along with the visa are good for a year and it is enough proof to show I am a PR.

The entire process took less than half an hour.

I am off to Miami for a weeks vacation and then to NYC to find somewhere to live. I plan to make the big move the last weekend in April.

Sounds as if the POE was nice and painless, but the mailing out of the visa cost more with the changing of the airline plans.. :wacko:
