The embassy in Dakar will only communicate via email. They usually respond timely by the next day but the information is sparse.

Looks like immigration reform might be one of those hot topics in the upcoming election terms. Obama is talking about it...

do they really? i know i've emailed them and have gotten no response. the phone thing is a disaster. i spent a good 2 hours just now trying to talk to someone other than the operator! i will email them again and see. how quickly do they respond?

and in response to the original topic/question, YES, reform is sorely needed, and these congresspeople don't care very much, that's for sure. i have no idea how green card holders get through this process, because as a US citizen, this has been the battle of all battles. inconsistency is at the top of the list. EVERYONE has different answers depending on who i speak to. also, a clear timeline would help tons. the worst part about this entire process, besides the money you spend, is the uncertainty. your life is on hold because you have no idea what is going on or what the timeline is.

if we all want to get a petition together of some sort, i would be down for it. i plan on writing letters to each of my congressmen once this is over. they were helpful in pushing the uscis along, and i think they were helpful in pushing the nvc along. now i'm doing battle with the consulate in dakar...

Hello, We have been in AP since January. I've e mailed the embassy numerous times, to only get a auto responds.

I call DOS weekly, they wont tell me anything. And I have called my local congressman, which was no help either !

Has anyone giving any thought to starting a petition ? I'm a member of a site care2 where you can start a petition, I'm not

much good at writing and wording. But if anyone is interested in starting one,I'll do all that I can to help.

Here's a link to the site ..... http://www.thepetitionsite.com/create.html

Sumthing has to be done !!

I understand everyones feelings but we have to support our system after all we do live 99% in safety thats why America is so great. Think of all the freedom and choices we have and thats why we choose to live here. AP sucks but it has to be done. I suffered greatly and still suffering at the rules and regulations of immigration but it is the only way my husband has to get over here to me and I choose not to go to him so there is nothing to do but wait. Have faith in our government we might not always understand or agree but as long as we live here we need to support it.

Hang in there if you have been in AP since january you will probably have your visa in about 2 months good luck

I'm sorry, but I disagree for the fact that not everyone goes though AP. There are a few males that went though the Islamabad embassy, and was not put on AP. I know one person personally that came to USA on a work sponsored visa after being here for 5 months he sent for his wife. And now they both have a 10 year green card. Mind you neither of them went though AP. Oh ... And also they both are from Pakistan. Now if AP is for our safety, how safe is that ? Also ... As far as I know all the problems US has been having, have been with people holding a student visa or a work related visa. How can sum people from the same country be put on AP and sum not. This is what I have a problem with. Sure I may have to deal with it , but I do not have to support it !!

I pray that your right , and he'll have his visa in a couple of months. InshaAllah soon you'll husband will be with you.

Its true not everyone goes through AP but life isn't fair in my case we have hit every road block there is but that is my luck and I don't think every case is treated the same but why cry about my bad luck and someone elses good luck in general thats how life is. If every case was put on AP then our wait would turn into years is that what you want? I know the wait is hard but it will soon be over. Focus on the fact that you have 8 months of AP behind you so you now are on the short end of the visa journey. I have been going through this for 2 years and he is still not here but if your spouse gets here before mine I will be very happy for you not judging who gets here faster. Hold positive thoughts and get ready for your reunion. Have faith

Can I ask what does AP mean?

AP means administrative processing which is a broad term used by DOS when a case is being worked on prior to the visa being issued in general it is more commonly used for cases having security or name checks.

Luck has nothing to do with getting AP or not getting AP. As for you been going though this for the past 2 years. I started our visa process November 08, so we are shy a few months of being 2 years. Thanks for your support and as always I will remain positive.

I feel your pain. The London Embassy is useless. I had a number to the Dept of State in the U.S. I could call for updates but now it just hangs up on me after me holding for like 10 minutes.

I filed his I-601 in March of 2009, I sent postage paid envelope so I could get an update months ago and haven't heard anything.

I feel so frustrated. I am embarrassed that the US Govt can have such a ####### and useless system! Its no wonder people illegally stay in the country. I AM BEYOND ANGRY at this point. I have a vision of my head, these govt workers meant to answer the phone are just a bunch of dogs sitting around playing poker. Im sure thats the case.

I call this other number and they need to speak to my hubby, I get him on the phone to give authority and he goes to bed and then after she has reeled off something that sounded like stereo instructions she says she will pass me to someone else to escalate the call but she will need to go through security with my husband again.

I said to her why didn't you tell me that instead of recapping everything word for word for 10 minutes which gets me nowhere cause now my husband is in bed. I told her she makes me wanna go slit my wrists and I hung up. Not that I would EVER do that but I just hope maybe she can raise my complaint to her boss. I mean if I worked in a call center which the whole point is to just talk people into comas and just go round and round in circles I would question what the hell am I doing! Tax dollars hard at work NOT! :bonk:

If anyone starts a petition... PLEASE let me know!

I am so sick of all this s#*t!

Our K1 was sent back to USCIS in Sept 09. We withdrew it and married in Oct last year and applied for the CR1.

Our interview was this week and ... AP... back to DOS.

The interview was a nightmare. We were the first there and the last to leave. After the CO talked to us, we were separated and grilled by a DOS guy and homeland security officer. Then a 2nd CO took more info and said its going back to DC for administrative processing.

What gets me is if they doubted our relationship... why didn't ANYONE ask for any paperwork? I took 30 pounds with me! And they asked for nothing... not one phone bill, picture, or anything. The 2nd CO even said there were no problems with the papers we sent... that they were perfect.

I am guessing this is for name checks based on what others have told me. But who knows!

So YES count me in for reform! And I will be writing my senators and congressmen when I get home. One of them helped us already, so they are familiar with our case!
