Next theyll pass a bill telling me I have to live in a 2 bedroom condo and give the proceedes from my house to help people that never bothered to work hard enough or smart enough to afford one, and limit the size of my tv to 23 inches and make me pay 50k for a 15k car because it hurts peoples self-esteem that I drive something that seats 7 when they cant afford it. Problem is, as your charts show, nobody except us armchair politicos, really know who those two are, and like Jim Wright and Mike Mansfield, as time goes by, nobody is going to remember them either. Half of America doesn't even know who Joe Biden is, even though they voted for him less than 18 months ago. Well, actually they voted for the other guy on the ticket. Joe is just along for the ride. Obama will be remembered a lot longer, sink or swim, than any of the other players.

the way americans are employed has changed. there a lot more independent contractors these days - small, medium, big and huge companies now contract workers so it forces workers to get individual insurance (if they can afford it) gather than group insurance. individual insurance is a lot more problematic.

employment changed, it only made sense that health reform had to take place.

The USA in parts is a socialist nation.....who's money goes towards paying defence? The Taxpayer, who's money goes towards paying for the USPS? the Taxpayer, who's money goes towards paying for Fire service, Police? How many countries now have mandates to replace all bulbs with mercury filled cfl bulbs? Have you read the clean up procedures for these? and thats just one example....so yes when freedom to buy, and pay for whatever product or service you want is limited by governments that only seek to increase dependance on them, and in the process control private commerce to their own benefit I would say that they are worse off.

i would like to join the effort to repeal this bill but id like to be invited to do so without simultaneously being asked to espouse the other ideals that you so colorfully illustrated for us. why is it so hard to find people that believe in capitalism based freedom and the freedom to live your life the way you want?

The Earned Income Tax Credit gave taxpayer money to people who didn't pay any taxes at all. That was pretty damn socialist. You can thank (yes, thank - not blame) Reagan for that.

No need to latch on to anyones "outside" ideas if you want to work for repealing this Bill.

As for people having the freedom to "live life the way you want"..... come'on now, thats freshman year idealism.

There never has been nor will there ever be a time when all people have the freedom to live as they want, ... and the only reason you said that was... you live in a society which protects you from that very thing so it's easy to muse what it would be like.

oddly I have no argument over anything youve stated here. i agree 100% with your assertions. that being said though i immagine that you blame abuses by insurance companies for these problems that we both agree need to be addressed. in my view the burden placed on our system by illegals and tort lawyers have more of causative influence on the direction of health care costs.

i am one of these contractors that you speak of, but in my case I do this by choice because its a higher pay check and keeps you from being a slave to any singular company. it also has the added benefit of getting to experience an endless variety of work environments. i would prefer to buy insurance that i can take with me from job to job without the govt telling me, or my insurence company, what i am allowed to purchase. although removing the burden of illegals and limiting lawsuit ammounts would probably bring down health care costs enough to almost eliminate the need for most people without chronic illness to skip using an insurance company altogether.
