VFS Info for anyone that will interview @ Mumbai Embassy;

An immigrant visa allows the person receiving it to live and work indefinitely in the United States. Immigrant visas are issued based on approved I-129F, I-130, I-140, I-360, or I-600 petitions that establish a family- or employment-based relationship between the petitioner and the beneficiary.

If you are a resident of the following states in India and have applied for an Immigrant visa, you will be required to appear for an interview at the Mumbai Consulate. The US Consulate in Mumbai is responsible for the immigrant visa cases of those applicants residing in the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa; Daman and Diu (Union Territory); Madhya Pradesh; Arunachal Pradesh; Assam; Bihar; Dadra and Nagar haveli (Union Territory); Manipur; Meghalaya; Mizoram (Union Territory); Nagaland; Orissa; Sikkim; Tripura and West Bengal.

When the consulate schedules you for an interview, you are mailed an “appointment package” (sometimes known as “Packet 4”), which includes your appointment letter and instructions.

In addition, the consulate posts the schedule of all upcoming appointments on its website at http://mumbai.usconsulate.gov/interview_appt_schedule.html . Once you receive the appointment package, you should assemble the documents outlined in the instructions and visit the nearest VFS application center to pay your service charge and have the VFS staff review your documents for completeness.

Procedure:

On receiving the appointment package “Packet 4”

Step 1: Visit the visa application centre no earlier than 10 working days and no less than 7 working days before the scheduled interview appointment. Applicant must submit all the documents to VFS as specified in the “Appointment package” or “ Packet 4” (those which pertain to your case) on any working day and pay in the Courier Fees.

VFS will issue you a fee receipt based on your appointment letter and a receipt for the documents submitted. Click here for list of documents to be submitted to VFS.

Please note: Failure to submit documents to VFS at least 7 working days prior to your interview may result in loss of interview date. Applicants submitting documents to Kolkata application centre must do so at least 15 working days in advance.

Step 2: Report to the Mumbai Consulate on the day and time your interview is scheduled. You need to bring in your original passport, your VFS Logistics fee receipt along with the receipt listing the documents submitted to VFS and your original appointment letter. Please do not bring any prohibited items to the consulate because you will not be allowed to enter. Optionally you may use the services of the Star and Stripes Lounge.

Step 3: All successful applicants will have their passport couriered to them at their residence address as mentioned on the form DS-230. Alternatively you may also collect your passport across the counter

(Counter Passport Collection ) from the Mumbai application center on the day of your interview.

Click here to track the return delivery of your passport

You may e-mail your queries about VFS’ services to infousmumbai@vfshelpline.com or call on 022-66547600. If you have questions about the immigrant visa application process, you may send in your queries to the consulate at mumbaiiv@state.gov, call the consulate help line on 022-23637407, or refer to the consulate’s website at http://mumbai.usconsulate.gov.

because originals are w/NVC IV Packet, hubby submits copies to VFS?

VFS is a funny beast.

At this point, he should write a letter back, including the list of things that were already submitted during NVC Processing, then supply the rest of the things that are listed, that were not sent to NVC.

What bothers me is that there MUST be some 'coding' in that VFS letter, which you've NOT MENTIONED - as its frickin impossible to use an I-864 and an I-134 together, also the CR-1 visa never requires a DS-156 and DS-156K

That coding should be specific to visa type - what is on the letter for coding ?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

the websites say 31 rochester

and the RFE says 31 rochester

the main document says 32 so i want to send it there. is that okay? or do i have to send it to 31???

I would send it to whichever address is the latest communication. if you got an RFE that says 31 rochester, then that's where you send it to.
