I'm not 100% on this but it seems if you're embassy is an Appointment Post, then the NVC does additional document collection and what not and then forwards it on to the embassy. So the impression I've had so far is if you're an appointment post, then you won't be expected to bring a bunch of these documents with you, other than your medical exam and passport. That could also vary slightly from country to country.

If you're not an appointment post, then you'll be expected to bring everything.

Again, this is the impression I've had so far, someone may be able to verify or deny this. Also, here's the gov link which shows all the cities that are appointment post. Be sure to check by city and not country:

Cixelyd, did you ever get your RFE email?

I have the same AVR message, but no email here either.

I spoke to 3 different operators Friday and went ahead and sent the document they said was missing. It arrived yesterday and I am trying to be patient and not call another operator til Thursday.

I don't know if I can wait til then, but I am trying... LOL!

It took them 2 weeks to even open my 230 package, so I am worried about how long the RFE will take.

Praying for cc by May 7!

No luck for me either on the RFE e-mail. I'm thinking I should get the e-mail either Thursday or Friday. Would be nice if it came earlier, but I'm not betting on it. I can't remember when your AVR said you had an RFE, but I think it was right around the same time as mine. So you should probably get the e-mail this week some time.

Side not update: due to circumstances, I won't be able to send in both DS-2019's until probably this weekend. So I'll likely have the RFE e-mail by the time I'm ready to send them in :(

I'll update my sig with the RFE when I get it.

Edit:

I meant to add that based on what other people have mentioned, I think you'll get CC by May 7. It sounds like the average RFE turn around is 8 days and you've already got a 1 day jump on that.

Yes, the AVR said April 23 for me too. Guess I am just too impatient.

But I really want to go back to Jordan in June, so I NEED that interview date!

I think each country is different. In BR you only need to bring 2 photos, passport, medical and proof of relationship.

I can understand that. I was chomping at the bit for CC and interview, so we could have visa in hand by mid-late July.

Fortunately after this RFE, I was able to just sit back and say "well... we're boned". So, there's always a bright side to the down side. If they hose your target date, then at least you don't have to worry about it any more, since you know you won't make it.

I think the other silver lining is if you're going to miss your target date, then it's likely to be only 2 weeks or so and after doing 6 months or more, 2 weeks is a cinch. Sure it sucks that it doesn't line up perfectly, but it's the end result that matters most.

I think each country is different. In BR you only need to bring 2 photos, passport, medical and proof of relationship.

Just curious how you found this out, if you find out by e-mail from an embassy, or if you were just able to ask someone.

I tried pinging the Russia forum, but nobody could answer this particular question for Moscow. So I'm hoping we'll find out via e-mail or something from the embassy.

Anyway, I agree that it seems to vary a little based on country. The only thing that seems consistent is the passport and medical. Then each country seems to have a slightly different combination of other things you may need to bring. But at least it's not the whole packet with the DS-230 and what not.

I'm thinking documents submitted to the NVC will not be required to be brought to the interview.

Of course I'm sure there's always an exception to prove the rule somewhere.

I asked people who went to the interview in Rio. Here in VJ you can check the "consulate reviews" for you country and see what people say about the interview and documents.

Also, when you receive your appointment letter, it will contain a list of documents that you need or don't need to bring to the interview. It's like a check list from NVC.

You can always email your Embassy too and ask them.
