I am just wondering what happens if it takes longer than the 90 days for the I-751 to be approved and receive the new permanent resident card? I am just concerned because I travel back and forth to Canada every day and if it expires before I get my new one I am in big trouble!

Your status will be extended for 1 year and you will receive a notice of action (NOA) letter stating that. That letter will also extend your employment eligibility. If that option is giving you some headache, then you can schedule an infopass appointment and get an I-551 stamp in your passport that has the same extension.

I've heard about people who were entering the US on the 2 year expired GC and the letter and the officer didn't even ask for the letter, just the GC since the status is in the system, but that doesn't mean for you not to carry it... they can ask for it at any time you enter :)

09/16/11 .. Received interview letter

10/19/11 .. Interview - PASSED

10/20/11 .. Received text/email: Oath scheduled

10/22/11 .. Received OATH letter

11/09/11 .. Oath ceremony
