Really, do you really choose not to have health insurance, or does your employer just not provide it to you?

Company has BCBS and also an extended benefit plan as well. They pay the majority of the costs for the plans.

I still make my choice.

I agree, to each their own.

Fail. If he ends up in an emergency room, I end up paying. If someone chooses not to have car insurances and hits me, guess who ends up paying? Hence it being mandatory in some many states.

One guess whose premiums will rise the next year because of it?

I thought Bill is a small business owner. Strangely enough, such folks will benefit the most from the bill.

;) Once he gets past his 'chicken little' anxiety over the bill actually passing, he'll soon mellow out and reap the benefits.

If you have a lot of cash in the bank, why would you choose not to be insured? It's not very fiscally conservative to waste cash in that way, it's almost as if the perversity to make a stupid choice is driven by the fact that one can, not that one should. Most peculiar.

Actually I pay for it, eventhough this whole individual responsibility aspect hasn't hit you in your Aussie brain yet. Not everyone is a ###### deadbeat.

Also premiums aren't really effected by those who don't pay. People ilke ME who would pay cash are the ones effected the most. Hate to break it to you.

Everyone will be putting their hands in their pockets a little deeper now that Obama had his way.

If you don't want to buy insurance, just pay the $697 fine every year, but you've got to wonder what kind of yahoo wouldn't want health insurance if they could afford it?

Because if you have good genes and are healthy as hell, you can save your own money for later in life when you might actually need something.

I believe in taking care of oneself rather than be a burden on everyone else.

Someone who believes they can continue to pay the costs of health care even while being incapacitated due to an accident or illness is worth the risk simply in order to be able to claim they are an individual I guess.

Great...except unexpected things happen all the time. God forbid you or your loved ones should develop some disease or have some accident. Then what? You have that much money in the bank to afford what generally bankrupts others? That is not a lot of foresight.

Do you have homeowner's insurance? How about a life insurance policy? Car insurance?

Great, then you will not mind giving the rest of us peace of mind by taking out insurance, just in case you are wrong in having this unerring faith in your genetic code and ability to escape accident, you know for that eventuality that you simply can't pay for. Thanks.

If I can't pay for it/afford it, I won't use it. Health Care is not a right. Sorry, hate to tell you that. It's a service provided by others. If you can't pay, you don't get to play. Unless by chance there's some charitable clinic out there willing to take those on who can't afford it, whatever at that point. No one else should be forced to take care of anyone else.

I have what the law requires in my privileges and their use as well as what the contracts I sign at points in my life require.

My foresite is fine. I live under the guise that if you live, you live. If you're sick, you're sick and you'll either get better with what you can, or you won't.... It's pretty damn simple.

Sorry, I have no entitlement mentality whatsoever.

So then, let me ask you this. Who do you think will pick up the bill, when you (playing devil's advocate here) are found on the roadside from an accident, no ins card and taken to a county medical hospital for treatment. You have no insurance, and not enough money to pay for them to keep you alive, but yet, county will still do what they can. Who do you think already pays for that?

See: previous post about insurance required by law (the coverage for medical resulting from an accident is in the policy).

Anything else is on my own.
