As the Chairman of the Central Committee signs the partisan and flawed Senate bill into law, despite bipartisan opposition, in both the House, and amongst 53% of the US voting population, the new law sets a precedent, that the Federal Government can require the individual to purchase a good or service, or face a penalty. Rather than the government provide the service to all, the government will now require the purchase of health insurance from a private corporation for each American. Insurance companies win, and the rest of us lose our cherry, without the consolation of a reach around.

We'll see how the lawsuits play out first. I honestly do think this clause will go away in one way or another. Be it by the courts, or by legislative amendment.

If it doesn't.... Well, I DARE the tax man to cometh to my door and see what happens.

Not the first time - mandatory auto insurance comes to mind.

Auto insurance is not mandatory.... You do not have to own a car/purchase a car, etc. It's a privilege.

Don't buy a car, you don't buy insurance.

Two different things entirely.

This is not a valid argument. If you chose not to drive a car or drive only on private roads, you do NOT have to buy insurance. However, you WILL be required to have medical insurance just for being alive and breathing. I agree on many points with the new health care bill, this however is NOT one of them. How can you force people to buy insurance if they have no income or any way to pay for it?

I thought Bill is a small business owner. Strangely enough, such folks will benefit the most from the bill.

I don't get that part...if people COULD afford health insurance, wouldn't they get it?

The reason why (some) people don't have it, is because of cost. So lets fine them for not purchasing insurance.

Is that as retarded as it sounds, or am I missing something??

Really, do you really choose not to have health insurance, or does your employer just not provide it to you?

How do you choose not to have health insurance and behave responsibly unless you have a lot of cash in the bank? I don't get that - unless you can't buy health insurance because it's cost prohibitive, not having health insurance and expecting others to pick up the tab if you get in an accident or illness is highly irresponsible.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .
