Hi all. This forum is a godsend! Was recommended by another member and this is my first post. Hope someone can help.

I am in the middle of compiling my i-751. I got a little confused about the FD-258 fingerprint form that the instructions said should be enclosed, but on searching the forum, have discovered that I do not need to send it with my application, the biometric appointment will take care of it. I live in NYC, but am about to go to Anchorage, Alaska for a few weeks for work. My concern is that it is very likely that my Biometric appointment will be while I am away. My mailing address on the form I am submitting is for my NY address. Does anyone know if there is any way to arrange for my biometrics to be taken in a different state? There is a USCIS office in Anchorage. I called the USCIS helpline, who were not too helpful! The person I spoke to really didn't know the answer and said I could try putting a letter in my application explaining all this. I was wondering if anyone had run into a similar situation and how you dealt with it. I know there is a place on the form to put a different mailing address, but firstly I don't know exactly where I'm staying yet, and secondly even if I did, it is only for a few weeks, by which point the whole process won't be finished.

Again, I hope someone can help me :)

I think this question has been asked before but there was no clear answer to it.

The most important thing is to make sure someone reliable is constantly checking your mail and notifying you immediately of any mail arriving from USCIS. When you say a few weeks of work, does that mean more than 1 month? Usually, you should receive your NOA after submitting your application and then your biometrics letter. It seems that the biometrics appointment is around 6-8 weeks from when you mail the package so if you know that you will return by that time, then there will be no need to confuse USCIS. I am wondering if you actually get your biometrics at a different office and all hell breaks loose at VSC because a minor detail as such can create a major confusion.

Worst case scenario, you can reschedule or if you happen to receive your biometrics appointment before you leave, then you can go for an walk-in biometrics and get done with it.

Hope this helps!

That helps hugely! Thank you. I'll be there for about seven weeks. I'd forgotten I could reschedule my appointment. It's been a while! If it usually is 6-8 weeks (and so far in my experience these things take longer not shorter!) then I should be able to get it done when I get back, I'll just wait to send it off until just before I go. Thanks again for your help

I did my biometrics for AOS in a diff. state. But that was my designated office. Apparently, the out of state office was nearer than the one in my state. On the AOS forum I was on before I was kicked out (lol), I saw a msg where someone had taken biometrics in a different state successfully. I don't know if he encountered problems down the road, for I was kicked out.
