Repeal the Bill!

And even if they win every election in the Senate, they still won't have enough Senators to beat a Presidential veto.

What about when they get a Republican President? No GOP President is going to allow the repeal of the ban on pre-existing or throw 26 year olds off their parents policies. Not going to happen.

This is a done deal. They lost.

Your assumptions are based on two faulty premises. One, that the only way to get rid of this bill is to repeal it. Two, that any vote to discard the bill would consist ONLY of Republican congressmen and senators.

As to the first premise, it isn't necessary to repeal the bill. They could simply change it (substantially) with amendments. Most Republicans didn't have any serious opposition to the specific reforms you mentioned. They don't need to repeal any ban on pre-existing conditions (which applies only to children, at this point), nor throw any older "children" off of their parent's insurance policies. They could repeal the mandate that everyone purchase insurance or pay a fine starting in 2014. They could also forbid the federal government from selling health insurance, which would dissuade people's fears that socialized medicine is next on the agenda. That would be for starters...

As to the second premise, I seem to recall that 34 Democrats voted against the bill last night. I don't see any reason to presume that any movement to make significant changes would require a Republican-only vote. If there are enough politicians looking for new jobs on November 3rd, it's reasonable to assume that the ones left standing might finally understand that the American people really DIDN'T want this bill, and might be more willing to go along with a serious overhaul.

As far as the President and his veto pen - well, he changed his mind so many times during the last year that it's pretty clear he wasn't very particular what was in the bill that eventually made it to his desk. He just wanted to be able to chalk up at least ONE victory amongst the many campaign promises he made, and he spent more time on the campaign trail talking about health care than anything else. He got his victory. If he wants any chance of getting elected to a second term, I think he'll be willing to work with the majority of the legislature. After all, he'd finally be able to brag about a "bipartisan bill".

There's enough that goes into effect this year and next. None of that will be repealed. In 2014, when the exchanges are up and running, the American people will have the opportunity to shop for the same coverage that Members of Congress will have (Section 1312). I want to see the Congress that will tell the American people just before that's bound to happen that they can't have the same coverage that members and staff of Congress have. Good Luck with that campaign.

Thanks for the good luck wish. You libs can't ever see the spigot turning off, but the truth is, the US iz broke and that's a fact.

Yes, they can also jack off in the shower. You seem to forget that the health insurance mandate has been supported by GOP Senators and Congressmen up until last summer when they decided that they won't shape history but rather take a chance to be rolled over by it. Their strategery failed.

If one part of this bill is found not in compliance with the constitution the whole bill is null and void. Most likely the part with the mandate.

Oh by the way... the people who will be making the final decision are the same individuals Obama talked down to at the state of the union speech. Karma is a ######. I wonder how Alito will rule?
